Update II: I spoke with the editor of NC Register and he has stated to me that multiple sources confirmed this is a real statement by SOLT.
Update III: The statement now appears on the SOLT website.
Update III: Matt here. When I first saw this statement from SOLT, I actually couldn’t believe they were releasing this information. But the more I thought about it, I can see them being worried that some would believe Corapi’s public protestations and continue following him. It seems to me that it would be irresponsible not to let people know.
Update IV: David L. had an excellent point in the combox. He said “What SOLT hasn’t disclosed, is how a member of their Society could have conducted business transactions to the extent that they maintain he did, without sufficient oversight from them. If they did have oversight, they could be deemed accessories. If they did not have oversight, they could be deemed incompetent.”
I don’t know exactly what evidence they have but I’d imagine it would have to be pretty convincing to release this. Corapi seems like a litigious guy so I’d have to imagine SOLT has their ducks in a row on this.
SOLT, Father Corapi’s order, has issued a statement that summed up says. “Yeah, he did it!”
SOLT’s fact-finding team has acquired information from Father Corapi’s emails, various witnesses and public sources that, together, state that, during his years of public ministry:
— He did have sexual relations and years of cohabitation (in California and Montana) with a woman known to him, when the relationship began, as a prostitute.— He repeatedly abused alcohol and drugs.
— He has recently engaged in “sexting” activity with one or more women in Montana.
— He holds legal title to over $1 million in real estate, numerous luxury vehicles, motorcycles, an ATV, a boat dock, and several motor boats, which is a serious violation of his promise of poverty as a perpetually professed member of the society.

A statement of this kind is highly unusual to say the least. But if this stuff is substantiated (and it would appear to be) there is no way that SOLT could allow him to continue to portray himself as the victim and portray himself as a Catholic ‘leader’ of some sort. No way. Terrible. Sad. Infuriating. And so much more.
Update: Some people are suggesting the SOLT statement isn’t real. I have it on good authority that it has been verified otherwise the Reg would not have run it. It is legit. SOLT says he did it all.
Update II: I spoke with the editor of NC Register and he has stated to me that multiple sources confirmed this is a real statement by SOLT.
More commentary to come. Still trying to take it in.

Listening to Al Kresta interview Jimmy Akin, and they said there are police records showing Fr. C being arrested for drunk driving (& substance abuse) 9 yrs after he was ordained. SOLT findings may have factual basis. http://avemariaradio.net/archiveListen.php?file=kpm_20110706_1

"I find your disinterest in laying any responsibility on Corapi himself for exploiting the faithful intriguing. He wasn't an infant you know. He was a grown man."
And you've determined what I think of this whole thing on the basis of ONE COMMENT? Such amazing clairvoyance, if it wasn't crap. (It's always the anonymous ones, isn't it?)
There are plenty of individuals ready to run Corapi out of town on a rail. My point was confined to the role of the Society in the affair, which, as has been ably noted here, has yet to be done by any in the Catholic press. Corapi's guilt or innocence is another matter. This has yet to be proven, as the Society is the accuser, not the tribunal. And as the Romans say: "Nemo judex in causa sua." Know what I mean.
If you wanna know what I think of damn near anything, I have a blog too. By the weekend, I'll have plenty to say about Corapi, including stuff you won't read anywhere else.

"…the neo-Catholosphere is bent on destroying a conservative priest who has been accused of some things he may never have done. Never mind that the Bishops these electronic Princes of the New Church routinely defend and often support have Modernist conceptions of Catholic teaching themselves."

The statement seems to me to be nothing more or less than an effort by the SOLT leadership to ‘throw Father John Corapi under the bus.’ Maybe he deserves it, maybe he does not, I do not know. I have had no direct contact with Father Corapi in many years. But it seems to me that the issuing of the statement is an effort by the SOLT leadership to justify their own mishandling of his case from the beginning. It is a classic example of what psychologists call transference.

Whenever I hear terms like this I know that I can safely disregard anything else the person might have to say.

Why doesn't any of the gay supporting & active gay priests cause even a fraction of the outrage this scandal is causing? Why doesn't the Church & orders do to those priests & abortion supporting priests, etc what they have done to Fr. John Corapi??

Notice also how Fr Corapi was never "tax-exempt" so Govt couldn't tell him what to say, & told so. Doesn't make the "tax-exempt" church look too good by comparison. That said, nothing about this situation is good. Although giving SOLT benefit of doubt that they are telling truth, many questions remain. If they had this proof why didn't they come out & openly have a hearing of whatever? If they didn't ( which they said they didn't 't & hence the need for investigation only a week ago) then why are they doing this now? If there are police records, release them.. They are public documents. Were any charges dismissed? Do they even exist? Also, Fr.'s complaint reveals much insight. Payoffs don't mean guilt… He kept accuser's family employed. Why did she wait two years to come forward? Was her money gone & she wanted more & Fr said no more, especially since such agreements are done all the time by companies to get rid of troublesome employees, to avoid frivolous lawsuits such as age discrimination, sex discrimination etc. We just don't know enough so please don't assume SOLT is in the right…haven't we all learned from the recent abuse scandals? If Fr is guilty, he needs our prayers! If he is innocent, he needs our prayers! We all need prayers & should be praying for each other! The devil is on the move big time!
