Jim Caviezel’s new show from producers JJ Abrams and Jonathan Nolan got off to a good start. One awesome thing I meant to share earlier was that I was watching EWTN’s “The World Over” last Thursday and at the end of the show host Raymond Arroyo told his audience at EWTN to go watch Caviezel’s new show on CBS. That’s pretty awesome. I mean, what other network on television would tell people to go watch another network?
But I watched it and it was a good show with a lot of cool possibilities. Caviezel plays a former spy who is approached by a mysterious billionaire played by Michael Emerson of LOST fame (guy still creeps me out) to go all vigilante on crime and protect people.
Blogging buddy Jen Raiche asked me recently what value as a Catholic does the show bring. I’m not sure how Catholicy the show is but hey, it’s about defending the innocent or at least the innocent-er. And I trust Caviezel to deliver an inspiring performance rather than anything degrading.
Hey, I noticed that Caviezel’s character tends to knock people out with the handle of his gun rather than shooting them and when he does shoot them he tends to shoot a lot of people in the leg. So right there I think that’s a good Catholic motto. If you need to incapacitate bad guys try smashing the handle of your gun somewhere on the back of their head or neck region (I can’t tell which) but if your sneaking up skills are poor and you’re forced to shoot someone, shoot them in the leg. I don’t think these rules will ever be codified into a commandment or anything but it’s a good rule of thumb. Head smash first, shoot later. Of course, the shooting in the leg rule is bendable if you’re not a very good shot or you don’t have a lot of bullets. But at least in the show Caviezel’s got mad gun skills so it works for him.
I don’t think the Catechism says anything about silencers so you’re on your own there.
Anyway, the show looks pretty cool and it started off with decent but not great ratings so I want to support Caviezel. I’ll be watching.
Did you watch it? What do you think?

I did watch it.I adore Jim C. for his acting and for his striving to live out his faith. Oh, and he's ever so handsome too. Enjoyed it and hope they keep honing it, lots of great storyline, backstory possiblities — very cool Big Brother/ripped from the headlines premise. My friend and I have a standing date to watch "POI" together and also catch "The Mentalist" afterwards.

I LOVED IT! But then I tend to go for vigilante spy stories a la James Bond and Person of Interest… I hope it sticks around for quite a while!

Isn't that what Terminator II did? Take out a lot of kneecaps?!

I think Terminator are protestant though. Something about taking everything literally.

Great show!
Did it strike anyone else as disappointing that Caviezel's character was not married to the woman with whom he was rolling around in the hay? Anyone disappointed that Caviezel the real life person was in an acting job like that? I know my wife would probably ring my neck.

We felt it has great promise: great premise, great acting, and a decent script. Hopefully the ratings will improve.

To quote Firefly:
Zoe: "Preacher, don't the Bible have some pretty specific things to say about killing?
Book: "Quite specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps."

Geek!
Can a week go by on this blog without a "Firefly" reference? Typically, it's a Captain Mal reference so at least this shows some serious chops.

FirtsCitizen42….yes I felt the same way about the bedroom scene. Maybe they had eloped and didn't tell anyone, but still it wasn't necessary.

In America, the fornication was necessary. What is violence without the sex? Besides, he prolly was gonna marry her.

I really hope the Femin-Nazis and the Girly men don't do a 'Mike Hammer' on his character by sissy-fying him.
great show.

I saw it and liked it very much too. I usually don't watch ANY tv episodes, sitcoms or cop shows at all, I've never watched "Lost" for instance. But Jim Caviezel? Absolutely! I'll tune in and watch Jim ANYTIME!! J.C.'s the bomb!

Reminds me of a show I used to like called "The Equalizer" with Edward Woodward. I, unfortunately, have to wait for "Person of Interest" to come to Netflix, or Amazon, as we don't have cable….
September 30, 2011 at 7:21 pm
Person of Interest is available for free on CBS.com, and is broadcast Thursday night at 8pm on CBS, right before Mentalist.
(Has it occurred to anyone else that CBS seems to be taking comedies from USA network and turning them into dramas? "Psych" with fake psychic detective turned into drama, "The Mentalist". Burn Notice former spy helping people with mysterious boss is now "Point of Interest". )

We watched the first episode, haven't watched the second one yet. JC's like Jack Bauer except he doesn't chop off people's fingers. (Has anyone read the Swedish "Millennium" series or seen the movies? The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, etc.? He's the female version of Lisbeth Salander without the tattoos and piercings.)
I hope this show doesn't get cancelled like so many other good ones did. Like "Firefly."

Thanks "Firstcitizen42". I am watching it! I didn't even think to look.

It was good. We need to support our Catholic Brethren who work in hostile lands…
October 1, 2011 at 2:56 pm
…I mean he's the MALE version of Lisbeth Salander. I guess I shouldn't consume red wine while reading & commenting on blogs, LOL

I saw it and like it.

Watched it…and enjoyed it! I pray the ratings improve and Jim has a steady income to support his family.
Favorite lines:
“Is that where he is? Witness protection?”
“No, Lionel. He’s in the trunk.”
“I don’t like firearms very much.”
“Neither do I, but if someone has to have them I’d rather it was me.”
