Who’d a thunk that the path to popularity among liberals was so easy. Hey, the Church hasn’t exactly been asked to sign everyone’s yearbook recently. The Church hasn’t been in the cool crowd for decades and doesn’t get invited to the cool parties.
But suddenly the cool crowd that for so long mocked the Church is now macking the Church. Big time. They’ve developed a newfound respect for the deep thinking of the Vatican.
It’s kinda’ like that moment in the movies when the geeky girl loses the glasses and pops open a few buttons and everyone all of a sudden sees she’s gorgeous. Yeah, it’s kinda’ like that. But different.
CNBC reports:
The Vatican called on Monday for the establishment of a “global public authority” and a “central world bank” to rule over financial institutions that have become outdated and often ineffective in dealing fairly with crises.
A major document from the Vatican’s Justice and Peace department should be music to the ears of the “Occupy Wall Street” demonstrators and similar movements around the world who have protested against the economic downturn.
The 18-page document, “Towards Reforming the International Financial and Monetary Systems in the Context of a Global Public Authority,” was at times very specific, calling, for example, for taxation measures on financial transactions.
But if you’re expecting Pope Benedict to start dressing way cooler and joining the hippies on Occupy Wall Street, it might not be happening soon.
What the media is calling THE VATICAN!!!!! in the headline, is actually just a report from the Vatican’s Justice and Peace department.
But that’s overshadowed because of the awesomenessity of their proposal which is like music to leftist ears. The report called for the establishment of “a supranational authority” with worldwide scope and “universal jurisdiction” to guide economic policies and decisions.
Here’s the thing “supranational authorities” are great, aren’t they? They always work out well here on Earth. Never any problems with “supranational authorities,” right?
Hey, Pope Benedict is so cool right now among the left that I’m betting even the Pope’s red shoes will be seen as cool. I’m not one for picking out the next fashion trend but I’m thinking we got a winner here. If you’ve got extra cash lying around, you might wanna’ invest in red shoes.
I’m just excited because I haven’t been a member of a cool group since I joined the Dungeons and Dragons club junior year. What?!

Guys, the whole point of this is that it's not THE VATICAN. It's a bunch of do-good bureaucrats you've never heard of pontificating how to make the world better.

Hey, guys, it's Christ's Church and we can't leave her. I'm a convert too and this statement of a world bank scares me. It makes me feel we have a front seat for the second coming. But as Peter says, " where will I go Lord, you have the Truth". We are the Church Militant and we need to protect Her from the wolves within. We're not going anywhere! The Truth will prevail.

I'm betting that we'll see a 'clarification' statement released by this
congregation walking back some of the loonier bits. Some one at
that office has some explaining to do.

When I first heard of this tomfoolery, I suspected this was some sort of bureaucratic idiocy. That indeed, was the case. IMHO, the Pope need to get rid of these commitees, and inform the Vatican Press that from now on, any "The Vatican Says" announcement has to be approved by him alone. Scotju

The Thomas Woods rebuttal to this abysmal economic ignorance on the part of "the Vatican".

"The phrase "the common good" has a vastly different meaning in Catholic teaching than it does anywhere else. But hey, way to go letting Communists define the terms of the debate—you've ceded the whole question right from the word "go"."
Central banking is a commie plank. You go ahead and keep on thinking that they are talking about giving us Aquinas' "common good" through extending the Feds slavery on a global scale.

Some of the above comments are good food for thought.
In reference to the red shoes, i met JPii with a tour in St. Peter's Square in '79. I said something to him to the effect that real men do not wear red shoes. I think he donated his red shoes to the Wizard of Oz museum.

While remembering that this is a paper from an office at the Vatican, NOT an encyclical, remember, too, that we have bishops in this country who argue that Catholic social teaching says that illegal aliens have a *right* to jobs, and a *right* to be here. Then go read CCC 2241, which is a succinct statement on immigration.
When moonbats take wing, always refer to the Catechism, which is in print, and therefore not shifting with the tides.

It goes back to the 1960s that whenever the left felt that they could use the Catholic Church to push it's agenda (e.g., anti-death penalty, legalizing illegal immigration, nuclear freeze) it was "cool." But those subjects in which the Church actually had a clear teaching (e.g., abortion, Gay marriage) were "wrong" about.

@Anonymous 4 up from this one,
I never said they were. Vatican bureaucrats are still European bureaucrats, and socialist pipedreams are their bread and butter.
That does not, however, change the fact that Catholics actually are supposed to seek the common good, in its true form, in our political choices.
And fortunately, the Vatican bureaucrats in question have no authority whatsoever, either in the church or in the world. If we went into hysterics every time some paper-pusher shot his fool mouth off about some utopian pet theory, we wouldn't have time to do anything else.

Right now, everything Obama does is geared to establish one world government under the world bank, without the Creator, WHO endows unalienable rights, making of every human being on earth a property of the state or world bank. A world government under the rule of our Creator and His Son Jesus Christ would be most welcome and liberating.

Some people call Obama incompetent, but Obama is EVIL, more EVIL than most men can imagine. Obama's mentor, Saul Alinsky served the devil.
