You know Rick Santorum is doing well when the AP does a hit piece like this.
Here is the lede.
Rick Santorum Caught Up In John Ensign Affair: Senate Ethics Report
Seven paragraphs later, this sentence “The report’s brief reference to Santorum alleges no wrongdoing on the part of the Republican presidential aspirant.”
How is he caught up in this? He forwarded an email letting Ensign know that his mistress’s husband was going public. That’s all.
They write a 1200 word or so piece about the Ensign affair and links to Santorum using Santorum as the lede and that is the only mention. Despicable.
Congratulations Rick, you are officially a contender. The knives have come out.

Much more troubling, of course, was Santorum's overt and puzzling 2004 support for pro-abort Sen. Arlen Specter's (R-PA) re-election campaign, when he had ample opportunity to endorse pro-life candidate Pat Toomey.
Apparently he apologized, which is all well and good, but it does remain on record that Specter was the swing vote on ObamaCare™.

"Knives"?? His own record and behavior, man!
"By their fruits ye shall know them"…..and that goes for all of us.

The point of the Ensign incident is not that Santorum simply "forwarded an email", the email was TO SANTORUM from the cuckolded husband of Ensigns girlfriend asking Santorum for help. This speaks to Santorums character and his "family values"….or don't you think so, Pat??

I have to agree with Aristotle on this one. If Santorum was so pro-life, why did he support a pro-abort's re-election campaign? Was he told by the GOP establishment if he supported Specter, he would get support for a run for the presidency? That's a speculation on my part, but one thing is clear. He betrayed the pro-life movement, and by his actions, he destroyed any support he had in his home state. As far as I'm concerned, if he's willing to betray the unborn in Pennsylvania as a senator, he will do it as the POTUS.

Steve, you tool. PA is my home state, too. Santorum supported Arlen "Sphincter" for one reason: As head of the judiciary committee, Specter could make or break the confirmation of CONSERVATIVE, PRO-LIFE judges to the Supreme Court. Because of GOP – and especially,Santorum's – support of him in PA, Specter did just that. That was the deal. Consequently, we have two very conservative justices on the court that we otherwise couldn't have gotten. I loathe and always have loathed Specter, but he was true to his word in this case and saw to it that those conservative justices were able to make it through the confirmation process. His was a very powerful position, and probably because he was a RINO at the time (and a Dem in reality), he was able to get Dems who otherwise would not have to vote to confirm these justices. THAT is why Santorum supported Specter. It was, in fact, a pro-life strategy on Santorum's part. He did what he could to ensure that conservative, pro-life justices were confirmed, and he had to play ball with Specter to do that.
