With regard to the "Healthcare Affordability Act", both my husband and I work. We both have increases in the share that we pay for our health care. We have large increases in our copays. In addition, some of the categories do not pay until we have met a deductible (like the old 80/20 plans). Regular checkups are covered, but if anyone gets sick and goes to the doctor that visit is no longer covered until we have met the deductible. Thanks, Obama.
Glen Beck held up a red book with a swastika on it and said people kept "expecting" what was promised. Czar Nicholas II and the Czarina were "expecting" to be rescued by the "people" up until they were shot to death by the 79 people of the Bolshevik revolt lead by Lenin. Lenin promised the Bolsheviks religious freedom, but laughed them out of his office when they applied for freedom. There is a pattern. The soul of America has been co-opted, supplanted by the Great Liar. God bless America, Land of the Free.
Pretty good but Glen Beck loses some credibility on the tobacco tax issue when he says Obama is "encouraging" smoking. A consumption tax creates an economic incentive to consume less of the product taxed by making it cost more – reducing consumption may not be the intention but it is the consequence.
Glenn didn't say Obama was "encouraging" smoking. The comment was more complex and was used as an example to highlight the idocy of current policy. We fund children's healthcare by the tabacco tax. So if the average Joe quits smoking we lose funding for children's health care. I actually think that Beck agrees with your statement that consumption goes down with a tax but wanted to point out how stupid it is to fund children's healthcare in that manner. Rather, Glenn was saying that Obama doesn't really want to fund children's healthcare.
My parents Prescription drugs more than doubled this year. They were paying $45 for most of their drugs with their AARP plan. On Jan 1 this year the rate went up to $95 per drug. Their neighbors, who worked for the government and are wealthy, pay 0, because of the government plan they are on. My folks make 40k in retirement on Social Security & annuities. This disgusts me. They spent upwards of 8K on prescription drugs, yet the government retired neighbors spend nothing. What are we supposed to do?
