This is unbelievable.
Nancy Pelosi told an audience that the Catholic Church has not enforced its teaching on contraception and that the church now wants the federal government to enforce that teaching for it, according to CNS News.
What does she mean by enforce? The Church does not force anyone to do anything. This mad woman has sees everything through a prism of power.
And somehow in her sick mind she’s claiming the separation of Church and state as a reason the state can force the Church to do something because by not forcing the Church to fund contraception would be asking the state to enforce Church teaching.
You’ve gotta’ watch this:

Wow! Ex-communicate EVERY Catholic that has ever used contraception. Every one, and then Nancy also. Also the entire SCOTUS that hasn't overturned Roe, ex-communicate!
When the remaining 8 of you that are pure enough can have a church in the local food banks basement.

I truly appreciated your ability to nail this one. Good work.

Your bigotry is showing Rover.

Rover shows his (or her) misunderstanding as to what excommunication means. The church doesn't excommunicate someone for committing a sin. In Pelosi's case, she's trying to pass off lies as Catholic teaching. I'd say, trying to lead people away from the truth might get one excommunicated.

The astonishing thing (besides the naked stupidity of the comment) is that she grounds her defense of contraception on the individual right to conscience, precisely the thing that's being violated by this rule.
February 23, 2012 at 3:26 am
And here's the problem. You can't argue with crazy.
February 23, 2012 at 2:36 pm
She is one sick broad. She is manifestly a formal heretic and should be excommunicated immediately so as not to give any further scandal by her dull-witted rantings. She and her fellow travelers are a cancer on this country.

I'm just thinking out loud, and I understand this can get me into trouble, but, if the pill and IUD cause early abortions, and if taking part in an abortion is an excommunicatable event; doesn't any one using these forms of contraception excommunicate themselves until they receive a resolute confession?
February 23, 2012 at 4:27 pm
A few details about the event, since it was in my backyard (quite literally a few miles away). She was hosted by Andrew Card, at the George Bush Presidential library here at A&M. She only got a "warm reception" and wasn't asked any tough questions.
Audience members could submit questions, but they were sifted through to make it easy on her and no follow-up was allowed. In other words, she was allowed to have the bully pulpit and frame the issue however she wanted, rather than having someone challenge her. If you have ever seen her challenged, you know she is a prideful woman who doesn't think she can be wrong.
The local paper even described her as "devout Catholic" and it sounded like the event write-up was done by a staffer of Pelosi.
I wish I could have a live debate with her, to show the hypocrisy and inconsistency of her "logic".

elm, it doesn't excommunicate them, but puts them in grave sin, thereby needing the graces of the sacrament of reconciliation.
February 23, 2012 at 6:58 pm
Along with elm's thought and Anon's follow up, wouldn't any person who helps to provide these services be in a state of mortal sin?

Oh, Pelosi–not only do I wish she'd stop speaking for Catholics, I wish she'd stop speaking for women. In fact, I wish there was a society of sensible women from which I could excommunicate her. Of course, that assumes she would ever be a member in the first place.
February 23, 2012 at 8:53 pm
ElizabethK, AMEN! I myself wish Pelosi would stop speaking entirely. When she starts up, all I hear is Charlie Brown's teacher "Wah wah wah wah wah wah wah waaah." 😉

Does not the procurement of an abortion cause the mother to be excommunicated?
CCC2272: Formal cooperation in an abortion constitutes a grave offense. The Church attaches the canonical penalty of excommunication to this crime against human life.
If you use an IUD or the pill, they both cause abortions. How is this any different than having a abortionist do the job?
February 24, 2012 at 1:36 am
Run along to the Episcopalians, Rover and take Pelosi and Sebelius with you. You'll all be much happier in that 'abortion-is-a-blessing' D.N.C.-approved 'church'. They do clergy sexual abuse too!

She made the same remarks in Laredo. Here is the report:

All I can say is Canon 915.

Unfortunately, the disgusting Mizzz Pelosi would appear to be correct in her statement that the "Church" is not enforcing it's teaching on this serious matter.
Here is how this sad state of affairs works: the Pope (Paul VI in this case) reaffirms the centuries-old teaching on this matter, and is more or less ignored by his Bishops. Then John Q Sinner goes to Confession and confesses his sin in the matter whereupon the priest – who also does not agree with the Church teaching – tells the penitent that he should follow his own conscience in the matter and not worry about Church pronouncements. That is how it works, and I would venture to say that is how it works in the vast majority of cases. If you don't believe me, just start counting how many children your average Catholic couple has. Or ask your parish priest what he does say to people who come to him on this matter.
Two more problems are added to this: the Pope talks wonderfully about "large families", etc. but will not enforce his Church's policy. How many Bishops or priests do you know who have been officially, canonically warned to stop ignoring this teaching? To ask the question is to answer it. Talk is cheap; actions are what is required. And the second problem, which is in fact the true "third rail" in Catholic circles, is the ubiquitous "NFP" which, despite whatever good intentions may have prompted it, has turned into merely a form of "Catholic contraception."
Pelosi is a ridiculous witch and an apostate from the Faith (anyone seen her canonically dealt with yet??) and as long as she can blather on without a serious Church censure we will see more and more of this tragedy. And one other thing: we must start to understand what Leo XIII was teaching with his condemnation of "Americanism" in his Testem Benevolentiae. What we are seeing now is the triumph of that heresy in the Church.

It is about time that the her parishoners, if they have any brains at all, disassociate themselves immediately from her. She does not belong in our church.
