Run away! Run away! The brave editors of America Magazine stood for a while with the bishops in their struggle for religious liberty.
But no more.
The editors of the Jesuit magazine have sounded the trumpets of retreat and are bravely galloping away to watch from the sidelines.

I'm proud that I stopped subscribing to or reading America over a decade ago. The Jesuits are generally phony Catholics, although there are some very good and faithful Jesuit priests.
Their asinine editorial is more evidence that leftist/liberal thinking is a mental disorder, and that leftist/liberal Catholics are walking contradictions.
The editors of America have shown that their God is the state, and their messiah is Obama.

sorry, the contracteption vs. religious liberty fight will be lost by the religious liberty side.
Sex sells! Sex is fun! Sex is a losing proposition for the church.
You can keep women supressed by keeping them out of the preisthood and silent in church (2nd
Timothy) but you can't make them have a baby every time they want to enjoy sex. Reality is a crappy teacher.

Life is an ongoing journey. Sex ia a show stopper. If sex is not incorporated into life as an ongoing continuum, sex becomes an exercise in futility, exasperation and depression. The TRUTH is reality. If it is not true, then it is a lie. The choice is yours. I would rather have a brutal reality than a beautiful lie.

Anon:
If Christ wanted women priests they would have been born men. Have your ever heard a silent woman?

Alas…is there any hope for the Jesuits in America? How sad. I used to receive a subscription to America every year as a gift from a friend. I had to cancel the subscription even though it was free…exactly for reasons such as this!

Mary: Silent women only as required by the church.
I assume you are a woman and yet you write "If Christ wanted women priests they would have been born men". That is so illogical on the surface and every other level. My wife left the RCC because of the discrimination, she is Very happy as a Methodist btw.
I believe you use the word Truth in place of Faith. They are different.

America ran away a long, long time ago. This latest episode means nothing.

Anonymous whose wife is a Methodist: your wife left the Truth for faith in falsehood when she left the RCC. The Church's doctrine that it does not have the authority to ordain women to the priesthood is not unjust discrimination. Mary's comments simply mean that God does not will for any woman to become a priest, which is a corollary of the Church's doctrine concerning the all-male priesthood. If your wife is very happy as a Methodist, then he is happy with falsehoods. Plenty of people deceive themselves into thinking they are happy with something other than the One, True, Apostolic Faith in the Catholic Church.
