The Chicago Tribune reports that child endangerment charges have been filed against an Uptown couple accused of flying to Las Vegas and leaving their two children, 12 and 9, home alone for nearly two days, police said.
I’m thinking – what? Did the cops want the nice couple to take the kids with them to Las freakin’ Vegas. That’s no place for kids!!!

Actually, we went on a family vacation to Las Vegas two years ago and it was very nice. There are a surprising amount of family-friendly activities on the Strip (MGM lions, Bellagio fountains, New York New York Arcade, Circus Circus, Excalibur jousting show, Mandalay Bay aquarium, etc.). It's very do-able.

I don't think that's where these folks were going.

You are right.
Vegas is not for kids.
And what's wrong with parents expecting children to take care of themselves every now and again?
Teach them how to fend for themselves and they won't wind up on welfare and Food Stamps.
Heck, my kid's were gone for a week before they called me to ask I deposit more money in the debit card.

We wouldn't dream of going there and leaving the children behind. We're biding our time until someone shows a talent for counting cards and then we're off… (actually I think that was some sort of Malcolm in the Middle episode)

Las Vegas, or San Francisco for that matter… not where I'd want to be on Judgement Day.
I recommend Kihei on Maui as a much better alternative to the twin sin cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Vegas was fun for us even with 4 kids. We went to the Hoover Dam, the Star Trek the Experience, met Q (he signed an autograph), saw the dancing fountains tapdance to Singing in the Rain, went on a roller coaster, took a gondola in an inside mall and ate like kings. We also saw the GM live lions and went to Lake Mead. All in all, a great trip and it's not where you are, but what you are doing, in your heart, your life, your soul, that will affect how you are judged in the end.
