Georgetown University alumni, students and others are preparing a canon law suit to be filed with the Archdiocese of Washington and the Vatican, seeking remedies “up to and including the possible removal or suspension of top-ranked Georgetown’s right to call itself Catholic or Jesuit in its fundraising and representations to applicants.”
The effort is being led by the distinguished Georgetown alumnus William Peter Blatty, who won an Academy Award for his screenplay and book The Exorcist and has been honored by Georgetown with its John Carroll Medal for alumni achievement.

From Blatty's press release:
" We have all been negligent for too long: the laity, the clergy, and the bishops as well.”
Are you listening, Cardinal Wuerl?

While Mr Blatty is at it…I'd include any institution of liberal indoctrination oops higher learning that is lead by the formerly Catholic order of the Society of Jesus in the same canonical suit. Fordham, Boston College, U of San Francisco come directly to mind. Singularly, and as a group, the Jebbies and these universities (among others) have done graver damage to the Faith than even the Obamabots and other useful idiots like Biden or Pelosi could ever have hoped to accomplish on their own.
(Full disclosure: Fordham graduate, class of 1979, but still Catholic despite their best efforts)

So much for inquiry and intellectualism. What, exactly, is wrong with inviting those with whom you disagree? Is that not the point of education? Are we as Catholics so insecure in our beliefs that they cannot be challenged? This scorched earth stuff is making the Church into an ever-shrinking band of fanatics.

"This scorched earth stuff is making the Church into an ever-shrinking band of fanatics" unlike the state who has removed every mention of God from the public square, every freedom of speech about God, every response to the gift of Faith from God, especially in regard to exercising free will in the action of our conscience. Yesterdays post stated that Obama takes to himself the right to conscript "scarce resourses". Stalin starved 30,000,000 people to death by taking everything they had to eat. I suppose you are one of the elite who will not be starved to death. Good for you.

Yes! The behavior of this so called catholic institution is a travesty.
I am glad to read of this protest to the evil.

The Communist murdered, starved to death, causes the death of 100,000,000 to 130,000,000 through their wars of liberation in the 20th Century. However, all I hear from the leftist is their complaints about Catholics when we criticized Catholic hypocrites. Stop the red herring !

You might want to try thinking harder next time. Sebelius wasn't being invited to speak at some academic debate, she was being honored by the university as a commencement speaker.
Are we as Catholics so insecure in our beliefs that they cannot be challenged?
Sebelius isn't challenging our beliefs, she is making it difficult to put our beliefs into practice by her unconstitutional mandate.

Wow! Blatty's whole letter is fantastic. Everyone at Catholic college in the United States should read it. As the parent of a senior, I looked at three area Catholic colleges with my daughter, who will be attending a non-religious school. Why in the world would I send my child to a school that calls itself Catholic, but doesn't actually teach the Catholic faith, or even look at things from a Catholic perspective? From what I can see, to administrators the only difference between a "Catholic" school and one that isn't Catholic is more service projects.
