TV Guide is reporting that DC Comics plans to reintroduce a character as gay. That means they’re going to take a character that wasn’t gay and make him gay.
But wait, I thought it was genetic. I thought you didn’t become gay. I thought you were born that way.
DC Comics have had alternate universes for a while but this would be an “alternative” universe, if you know what I mean. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that a guy who goes out at night in tights might come out as gay. I guess we should be surprised that it doesn’t happen more often.
I’m thinking they won’t monkey with the big heroes like Supes or Bats but maybe Martian Manhunter could go the other way, right? I mean, he’s got “manhunter” right in his name.
This isn’t the first time, though. If you’ll recall, comic book writers have been trying to wave the rainbow flag for a bit. Remember some dude in the Archie comics “married” a dude. I suspect this kind of thing will occur with increasing frequency in the near future as we all are forced to “evolve” just like Obama.

Already thought He-Man was out. Remember that blonde bob and scant loincloth? And he owned a cat. I know there is a disco ball somewhere in Castle Greyskull.

Perhaps they will reboot Hal Jordan as the "Rainbow Lantern"? Also, I suspect that the Flash may come out as an exhibitionist and that we may learn more about Hawkman's avian preferences…

Wouldn't it be easier just to announce that Wonder Woman was a tranny all along?

I though Marvel was miles ahead on that with the X-Men. The thing was unwatchable because of its incessant preaching.

I thought Ace and Gary already had this covered.

Notice how they are taking an already-established character and changing him to gay instead of introducing a new character as gay from the start. The reason is because they know that trying to sell a brand new gay character won't work, as almost nobody wants to see that garbage. But this way, they get to try to pull a fraud on comic fans by essentially saying to them, "you know that popular character you've all loved for x number of years? Oh yeah, by the way, he's gay." They have to mutilate an already-established character because it's 100% guaranteed that a brand new gay character is a definite loser, as it well should be.

Marvel did that years ago with a character named Northstar….. Not sure if it counted because he was Canadian… Lol

I would say it will be Robin. Only they will change the spelling to Robyn.

I don't know if Pied Piper (a minor Flash villain) was always gay, but they handled him pretty well, without being preachy. They let the Trickster make some jokes about him during Countdown to Final Crisis, for instance.
Also? Marvel didn't just do Northstar, they also did Rawhide Kid (seriously, that's the character you choose to have come out, guys?) and the Ultimate Marvel version of Colossus. Of course, in Ultimate Marvel, Hulk eats people, and Quicksilver and his twin sister Scarlet Witch are an incestuous couple—Ultimate Marvel, see, is supposed to be the more "mature" version, and nothing says "mature" like stuff a soap opera would consider over the top.

DC Comics 'turning' a 'superhero' gay! : My perspective:

@Sophia's Favorite: How ironic that Ultimate Marvel calls a case of arrested development "mature". Cannibalism, incest and unfinished sexual development are now the new and ultimate "mature". Captain America is curled up in fetal position on the couch.

DOOM

Anon- nah, Doom is Marvel, too.
DC will probably go with a lipstick lesbian. Thought they already did that in Birds of Prey, but I might be conflating it with something else.
MAYBE one of the Robins will get changed.
Marvel lately did a lot of dumb stuff. Northstar sort of makes sense, since that character has something besides being gay. (Mostly, he's an ass, if I remember right.)
Shockingly, Making A Statement makes for bad comics.

DC Comics will be renaming themselves to AC/DC Comics.

Marvel stock just rose.

What makes everyone think DC will choose a male character gay, when they could go the lesbian route.
Powergirl
Huntress

The acceptance of the gay "lifestyle" means the total rejection of Christ our King. That is what they are aiming for. None of this is amusing.

I doubt it will be a lesbian, they already get enough innuendo with Wonder Woman and the Amazons.
I hope I'm wrong, but it'll probably be Captain Marvel. He's the "other" Superman, and most wholesome one so it's likely they'll do it to make homosexuality appear wholesome.
May 24, 2012 at 11:25 pm
Yeah, twisting some current b-lister who appeals to traditional morality is probable.
The innuendo is part of why I suspect they'd go with a lesbian. (Well, that and the whole 14-year-old-boy thing.)
