Catholic governor Christine Gregoire can stop doing her victory dance that she started when she signed her gay marriage bill into law. Now, let’s see how the people feel about marriage.
The National Organization for Marriage is fighting hard for this one. We all should.
The Seattle Times reports:
A referendum on gay marriage in Washington state has qualified for the ballot.
The secretary of state’s office announced Tuesday that Referendum 74 passed the signature-verification process that has been taking place since last week.
Sponsors turned in 247,331 signatures, far more than the minimum of 120,577 valid voter signatures required. A 3 percent random sample was done and of the 7,561 signatures that were sampled during the check, 6,877 were accepted and the rest were rejected.
The referendum seeks to overturn the measure allowing same-sex marriage in the state. That law was passed by the Legislature and signed by Gov. Chris Gregoire earlier this year. The law was supposed to take effect last Thursday but was put on hold once the signatures were turned in last Wednesday.
National groups, including the Washington, D.C.-based National Organization for Marriage, have said they’ll aggressively fight to strike down Washington’s new law.
Gay marriage bombs every time it’s put up for a vote yet the media and our elite overlords tell us it’s inevitable. But “inevitable” don’t mean today.

Same-sex (not) marriage will be on the ballot in Maryland, as well. Funny how the media, talking heads and polls keep telling us that most people are in favor of same-sex (not) marriage. But, as you say, the voters reject it every time.

I live in MN and General Mills just came out in favor of same-sex marriage. It is on the ballot this November here with an amendment to our constitution to have marriage as only being between a man and a woman. But if you leave the ballot blank it counts as a no vote (or for same-sex marriage). I am fearful that our state will be the first to defeat marriage as only being between a man and a woman. If so, it won't take long for our Governor to do something to make same-sex marriage legal.

My concern is the same whenever Washington State has to vote on issues; we have a very polarized state, with Western Washington being primarily liberal, and Eastern Washington being primarily conservative. As an Eastern Washington resident, it's painful to see our entire side of the state's vote get nullified by one county on the Western side's results.
So I remain prayerful that this referendum will pass, but I also remain terrified that we will get outvoted again.
