The meme. “In today’s Republican party, even Ronald Reagan would have trouble getting the nomination.”
Why yes, I think that is right.
A party that has successively nominated.
George H.W. Bush.
Bob Dole.
George W. Bush.
John McCain.
Mitt Romney.
Would Ronald Reagan have any place in a party that nominates men like this? John McCain? Mitt Romney? Alas. Alack.
No.

You're leaving out Reagan's personality, his toughness, his charisma. He would have had a chance.

Isn't the point of the post that Reagan was above those men listed as far as his thinking and his skills….?

Yes, how could a real conservative ever hang with these jokers? And who picked GHW Bush anyway, and started this alarming trend?

The Republican party is worthless and always will be due to the fact that the vast majority of Republican voters have effectively surrendered their votes to the party establishment; meaning that they will always vote for whatever awful candidate the party nominates. They will never wake up, take their votes back, and vote for a decent third-party candidate. The neocons can always count on the lemming masses to hand over their votes in such fashion. Therefore, Republicans have themselves to blame for the endless stream of awful candidates the party continues to nominate, and themselves to blame for why this will never change.
