I am not G.K. quoter. Don’t get me wrong, I love the fat man with the awesome ‘stache. But so many Catholic bloggers quote him that it sometimes seems to be the easy way out. Ya know, intellectually lazy.
Speaking of intellectually lazy, I got such a kick out of an article over at Space.com.
The eggheads over there contort themselves into such pretzels in order to deny the obvious that I had a sudden and inexplicable craving for yellow mustard and beer after reading it.
They want you know know that we absolutely do not need a Creator to have creation. How? The universe spontaneously created itself out of nothing. How? The rules of physics were already in place. Well, who made the rules? Hey, what’s that over there?!?!

Yep, fer sure, it's turtles all the way down.
That a "scientist" would posit a kid in the universe next door as the cause of the existence of this universe (failing to recognize he'd just offered the turtles explanation) is appalling. Apparently logic and reason were nowhere to be found in his studies.

Smarts don't mean someone is…smart. I've heard a well educated person talk happily of how putting crystals in each of the corners of the house foundation give the house energy. And they think WE'RE crazy!?

I would like to know how old this Seth Shostak is. He sounds to me like someone who has spent his entire life staring into one electronic screen or another. Living inside his mind.

@ProudHillbilly: science and smarts have nothing to do with each other. Actually, science is great precisely because it renders smarts irrelevant—the scientific method is literally nothing more than a set of tricks to let people of average intelligence discover the sorts of things only a genius would notice on their own.
That's not putting science down; "civilization" consists largely of a series of methods for allowing average people the benefits only the great could achieve on their own.

What frosts me is that the Theory of the Big Bang has been co-opted by atheists. It was first proposed by a Roman Catholic priest, Father George Lemaitre, as a creation event. It was contrary to the prevailing idea that the universe has always existed and therefore was not created.
