Even in the face of obvious fact that the attack on the Libyan consulate and the assassination of the ambassador was premeditated, even with confirmation from no less than the Libyan President, the Obama administration continues to deny this fact and by doing so puts every State department representative in the Mid East and all us in danger for no reason other than political expediency.
Even with the Libyan President confirming something that anyone who cares about the truth already knows, the Obama administration sent its Ambassador to the UN on to the morning shows to do her best Baghdad Bob imitation.
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice said the attack on the American consulate in Benghazi last week was not premeditated, directly contradicting top Libyan officials who say the attack was planned in advance.
“Our current best assessment, based on the information that we have at present, is that, in fact, what this began as, it was a spontaneous – not a premeditated – response to what had transpired in Cairo,” Rice told me this morning on “This Week.”
This assertion is a most craven and dishonest act. I think that every Middle East envoy should resign in protest immediately.
Honesty about what we face is paramount. When the administration lies for the sake of political expediency, they put us all in danger.

Ok, lots of people can show up at a moment's notice, but the coincidences mount up: Ambo was at the Consulate for a special event; consulates have a much lower level of security than embassies; Amb Stevens was respected for being able to represent US interests while communicating with the Libyans; the crowd knew he would be in Benghazi; crowd knew where "safe house" was; crowd had RPGs; lots of chatter from AQAP; Egyptian President Morisi was in Tehran last week; and IT WAS SEPTEMBER 11! Lots of coincidences. This really is an act of war,of terrorist war. You are right, Pat. Lord Have Mercy!

Ambassador Rice is most likely correct to the extent that the protest was not premeditated, and that it was just a response to Cairo. The protest was about a lot of things, one of them being the video, but if you asked everyone who was there why they came, the answer would change every time. Now, the attack was probably planned, but only executed because the of the screen provided by the protests. It's illogical to think the protests themselves were planned out. How can you control such a thing? You can't, because everybody has their own agenda.

Matt R., it is perfectly logical to see the protests themselves as being planned in that they were intentionally instigated. Mobs can be instigated and riled up and they are all the time – particularly in places where people are raised to have hair-trigger sensitivity to any slights, both real and imagined. You are correct, though, in suggesting that once the ball is rolling there may be little control over the "protesters"/mob.

So the Administration will continue with the fantasy that an insulting video about Mohammmed caused all the trouble. Let the unrest simmer a bit longer, have a few more bomb threats called into universities, maybe an actual bombing somewhere and voila! We then see the Internet heavily censored (except for porn sites and social networks), perhaps an Executive Order or two to further muzzle dissenting voices. The beat goes on.

Matt R and everybody else, Do not disregard the fact that the attack began on the 11th anniversary of the Sept 11 th attacks. These dates, anniversaries, etc are important even if we are myopic about them. I've been in countries where there were funeral processions of massacres that occurred in the 12th century. There are just too many coincidences, including a letter to the Jerusalem Post about planned attacks dated Sept 4!
