How’s that feminism thing working out for you?
On Thursday, Sept. 13,Crookston High School announced that next week’s homecoming activities included Prey and Predator Day.
The news release stated that the event will have “guys dress in their camouflage and other hunting apparel while girls will show off their animal print.”
While some will obviously see this as some kind of patriarchal throwback to neanderthal days, this is actually what our culture currently makes of women. Prey.
Others are valued only inasmuch as they have some pleasure to offer. When that pleasurable moment is over, it’s time to find your pants and leave. And we’re all supposed to crow that this is somehow empowerment for women.
This is what the hookup culture leads to. Predator and prey.

Even as "spirit week" theme-dress days go, that's pretty lame. What high school girl actually owns anything animal-print? And why do her parents still have custody?
Don't know if I'd read any broader cultural trend in, though.

Yes, but you didn't vote in your last school board election.

Mack Hall HGS is right. Sexualityism at its worst. Even the olympics separate the sexes. Inclusivity, play the dirty game or be shut out. When he catches her, he gets to be her slave for a day. The school board is the predator (our employee) and the taxpaying citizen (the employer)is the prey. Cannibalism, headhunting next?

Watch the people who came up with this explain it. Someone will most likely claim that they're empowering the girls (oh, I guess we have to call them "young women")and that objecting parents are somehow hurting someone. Sigh.

I strongly suspect that the whole idea came from girls and was pushed by girls. The linked news report didn't reveal much but did give away that it was the school's student council that originated it – and the typical US high school student council is dominated by girls.

So if my daughter's school has such an idiotic event and I send her to school packing a super soaker would she get suspended because it looks too much like a real gun?
Yeah, stupid question. Sorry.

@Sophia's Favorite, most public school girls own animal print…

Baloney. Animal print what? Nobody wears animal-print anything except middle-aged women who greatly overestimate their own sex-appeal.
My brother's in public high school and both my parents and one of my sisters teach in public high schools. I'm telling you, nobody wears animal-print.

Sadie Hawkin's Day anyone? A new form of combat training? Slave for a day as the grand prize, from an antique movie starring Carole Lombard entitled "My Man Godfrey" made over the depression era. But it is really all about the coercive stupidity of it all.
