In the the bizarro Veep debate last night, the candidates were asked how their mutual Catholic faith informs their views on abortion.
Rep. Ryan answered that his view that one cannot reasonably separate their privately held belief from their public view. He then said he is pro-life not only because of his Catholic faith, but also because of reason and science. I cannot tell you how much I like that part of his answer.
He then went on to say that the Romney administration would oppose abortion except in cases of rape, incest and life of the mother. He clarified later that his principle is that all life begins at conception, but the the policy position of the Romney administration would support the exceptions.
Ryan clearly understands that the policy does not match the principle, but obviously Governor Romney believes that a policy without exceptions is not achievable at this time. That is a debate for another time, but Ryan fairly defends the reason, science, and the Church’s teaching on when life begins.

I totally agree. So many people take Biden's same "I would never have an abortion but I can't stop anyone else from getting one" position. Among people who hold this view, I have met those who think life does not begin at conception, those who believe it does (yes, they exist.. it's disturbing), and those who intentionally do not answer that question.
When my husband and I were watching the debate we also noticed the almost awkward moment when Ryan said he believed life began at conception YET there would be exceptions for abortion in the cases of rape, etc. We both got the impression that Ryan didn't personally agree with those exceptions but that he was upholding Romney's position there.

One thing that drives me a little crazy is that we still have to even discuss abortion in the context of "the Catholic question." There was a point in my life when I rejected pretty much everything the Church said about anything. But I was STILL Pro-Life, because the science was so irrefutable.

Obama and Biden, both embrace the culture of death and homosexual liaisons imposed on our founding principles, obliterating freedom. The Supreme Court for the United States of America is the personification of the perfect Justice of our Creator and must represent God’s perfect Justice. Imperfect Justice has no place in the Court.
The Federal Government can only return the issue of legalizing the denial of our Creator, infanticide, abortion, and inculturating homosexual behavior to the states for the change to be approved or refused by the sovereign citizens, who are persons who constitute our government for a rebirth of freedom. So wait- when Ryan uses language that mirrors the language used by Roe v Wade to create the abortion 'right' it's ok, because an abortion law without exceptions is unachievable right now? How's the koolaid?
I have to say that the mental gymnastics that we are expected to go through to make this an acceptable vote is more than a little amazing. And before someone trots out the ol' SCOTUS argument: Roe v Wade has been upheld by Republican appointees in Casey v Planned Parenthood, Webster v Reproductive Health Services AND then John Roberts cast the deciding vote for upholding Obamacare. Way to go, Pro-Life Republicans. We can pick 'em, no? (the answer is: NO.)
All I can say is that your state pro-life lawmakers are your only hope. The national platform is a dismal disappointment.

Svetlana: Roe v. Wade never dealt with the sovereign personhood of the newly begotten, saying that they did not know, relying on everyone's ignorance and the fact that persons are the only people who are to receive Justice. The unborn were disenfranchised after constituting our nation by their existence which is the criterion for the objective ordering of human rights.
Roe v. Wade intended that the state bestows sovereign personhood. The sovereign personhood of each and every person constitutes the government, the state. From the very first instant of existence the newly begotten sovereign person constitutes the state and is identified legally in the Law of the Land as "our posterity". The legally and morally innocent are the standard of Justice. Personhood is endowed by our "Creator". Atheists repudiate our "Creator" and most likely their own citizenship. America has been a totalitarian government since the Person of God has been banned from the naked public square.

Government does not give LIFE, God does. Some people are abusing their constituency in government to corrupt government. It is Joe Biden's job "to secure the blessings of Liberty to ourselves and to our posterity" from The Preamble and purpose of the U.S. Constitution which Joe Biden has sworn and taken an oath to fulfill. Our constitutional posterity are all, ALL, future generations.
