My five year old has a terrible cold. Last night she came down at 2:30 in the morning saying she was all stuffed up. So I stumbled out of bed, helped her blow her nose (which consists of holding the tissue and saying “blow,” and then gave her medicine.

The medicine clearly tasted terrible and she grimaced and shuddered as she swallowed it. Poor kid.

I didn’t even wake her for school this morning and just took the others. She just came ambling down about half an hour ago. Her hair was comically messed up and I laughed and she just looked at me to show how unamused she was.

I told her she wasn’t going to school and she didn’t even celebrate. Then I told her it was time to take her medicine again. “Wait,” she held her hands up. “I think I’m too sick to go to school but not sick enough to have to take medicine. OK?”

Wow. Her sickness seems to have more upside than most. The perfect level of sickness. Of course, as I finish writing this I’m going to get her medicine. She’s not going to be happy.
