Cardinal Dolan said that anyone who believes that he will be the next Pope is smoking dope.
Q: Observers see you as a favourite for the papacy?
A: “I’d say those are only from people smoking marijuana.”
Of course, the problem is that it’s those kinds of comments that make me want Cardinal Dolan to be the Pope even more. Does that mean I’m on the dope?

Dolan also said that people who thought he'd be elected were "hallucinating." He's got the druggie vote sewn up for sure!
He's also got my vote if he wants it. Not that my vote will count.

Marijuana doesn't ordinarily cause hallucinations. I think hashish can, though.

Personally, I'd far far prefer Burke to Dolan.

Ditto, Liz. Not that my opinion matters one whit but Dolan would never be my wish for our Holy Father. WAY too "pastoral". I'll never get that Al Smith Dinner fiasco out of my memory nor the Cardinal's wishy-washy (in my opinion) reasoning for choosing to go ahead with it.

Dolan as Pope? Who would he invite for dinner then?

Clever twist there Matt.

Agree with Liz and Elizabeth. The sooner Dolan is gone from the USCCB post the better. If we're talking dark horse American papal candidates, Burke would do but my preference would be Chaput.

You know, Dolan just insulted marijuana smokers…. 😉

Here's hoping that marijuana, like Twitter, will be forbidden in the conclave. No, we do not need another pope who is more concerned with conciliating enemies of the Church than with clearly condemning errors for the good of the faithful.

Just hearing his name (Dolan) makes me want to smoke it (assuming it truly has anti-nasuea properties) and YES the sooner he is gone from the USCCB THE BETTER, (but please God, not due to a detour to the Chair of Peter.)
I am truly shocked he is even mentioned, given his limited scholarly abilities, shallow speeches, and if you have ever been at a talk he has given, the disturbing feeling of the faux-ness of his presence.
FWIW – I love Archbishop Lori!! He is the real deal!

Agree with Liz and Elizabeth. I'd much prefer someone like Raymond Cardinal Burke, who says it straight-forward, doesn't mince words, and doesn't leave me shaking my head in stupefaction, as does Dolan.
