After the election of Pope Francis, some of the choices of the Pope have made liturgy a hot topic.
So much so, the world renowned expert on liturgy Cardinal Mahony, as seen at the Los Angeles Religious Education Congresses, has weighed in on the topic on Twitter.
I responded with some thoughts of my own.
‘Humble’ liturgies are like ugly babies, you pretend to admire them to spare your host’s feelings. But the baby, while a miracle, is still ugly.
He who rejects beauty in the mass doesn’t elevate the world but deforms heaven. #LiturgyMatters
Great humility and great beauty are not mutually exclusive. Just ask the angels. #LiturgyMatters

I'd like to tweet: hopefully, your eminence, you'll be rooming next to Cardinal Law here shortly.

I thought this was a joke. But then I had to go on twitter and see it for myself. Lord, have mercy.

What irony if Pope Francis orders this fiend to a cloistered monastery for the remainder of his days.

Low and humble equate with giant puppets?

Why even wear shoes? Or cassocks? Or fussy Roman collars? Let's just sit around in thrift store leisure suits, and in union with the homeless, resolve not to bathe or brush our teeth. Let's give Jesus some serious burlap funk, the ugliest we can accomplish, because He hates beauty and order of any sort. The ugliest and smelliest among us will ascend directly into heaven.

What an arrogant, proud man. This coming froma man who should be imprisoned for the rest of his life. Cardinal Mahoney is responsible for allowing countless priests to molest innocent children. The last thing this pathetic excuse for a bishop should be worrying about is papal etiquette. While it is true the current pope may idead luck shop worn and tacky, he will not be around forever. But I doubt one person alive will forget what a despicable excuse for a man Roger Mahoney is. And did I mention classless.

It's time for Archbishop Georg Geinshwein to produce the paper dated Feb 28, 2013 7:00 pm stating that Pope Benedict had taken back his resignation. The letter signed by the Pope and witnessed by the archbishop and Monsignor Marini. That means Francis would be an anti pope. OR Pope Benendict needs to come before a camera and state that he was forced to resign the papacy, but in order to avoid a schism Pope Francis needs to resign. That was another conclave can be held and Cardinal Burke will be seated on Peter's throne like he should have beeen. Either way it's a win win situation. Of course I'm joking but think about it, what would happen if a paper were produced or if Benedict said he resigned under duress? Either way the "humble" pope would have to step aside. Let's see how humble he would be then.

M. Archbold and commentators, you have made some of the most perceptive and spot-on observations. Thank you! Perhaps Cardinal Mahoney saw BROTHER SUN, SISTER MOON in 1968 and hasn't got over it. He certainly writes like a high school sophomore, matching the shallowest of cliches' to poor sentence structure.

I didn't think highly of Mahony before this, but he just sunk a little lower. My husband, upon hearing about the tweets wondered if his twitter account had been hacked. I assured him that the man really does appear to be that idiotic (and tasteless…).

Well, Cardinal Mahony comments have made me angry and sad. And now I go to pray for him.

Juxtapose Mahoney's sickness to the innocent and funny wet willy kid.
Kid might get reprimanded, Mahoney gains clout among elites.
What a screwy world.

Another example. Jenkins salivates and is beaming in his man-love for Obama, graduating students get effectively dimished to spectators instead of the ones that should have been celebrated for accomplishing something significant from a great university. And that's not to mention the (God Bless them) students that couldn't allow themselves to attend their own graduation. As a parent of a child that graduated then, it still sickens me that the students were expendable in the eyes of the infatuated -digging-his-heels -in (despite students and parents valid and lodged claims it would take the focus of the reason for the day) 'priest' president of the school. Now I am so mad from thinking of that Disgusting episode I forgot my point! Oh well. And never, ever forget Fr. Weslin's (RIP Fr.
Weslin) Arrest (and carted off in cuffs on a makeshift gurney) while the embarrassingly infatuated Jenkins was at the
ceremony: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CC4QtwIwAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Diiz4tfjSuPc&ei=YF5GUbilKsvE4AOw54CgDg&usg=AFQjCNFbZshuNubWM7-bMyFDMAujvdJorA.

The "Bones" website has a great response to these "tweets" or "quacks."

Has he stopped?
March 19, 2013 at 2:17 am
Whatever shoes he's wearing, I hope he deals justice swiftly to Cardinal Mahoney… "as a sign to us all."
March 19, 2013 at 2:16 pm
I hope the Pope follows the example of the Cure of Ars. Poverty for self, but the highest beauty, reverence and worship for God – especially in the Liturgy.
March 20, 2013 at 7:18 pm
Anonymous @6:15. Pope Benedict XVI Emeritus knows exactly who Pope Francis is. The man is tough and it is a good thing.
March 20, 2013 at 7:19 pm
Mahoney is jealous and despicable
March 24, 2013 at 4:29 am
Disgusting. Despicable. Dreadful. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles is a liturgical wasteland. How many times does the CDF have to say "no liturgical dancing" for these people to get the point?
I would love to place 100% of the blame on Mahony but his successor hasn't lifted a pinky to change anything. I have to believe that St. Josemaria would be disgusted by Archbishop Gomez's willingness to preside over that ZOO called "Religious Education Congress."
I would be happy nust to find a single NO parish where I could find a predictable & decent weekly mass. TLM isn't even an option anywhere near where I live.
March 27, 2013 at 5:10 pm
I guess Cardinal Mahony couldn't convince Pope Francis that liturgical dance, stupid costumes, bad music, irreverent processions done by prancing people in flowing robes and bad readings and homilies is how the liturgy should be celebrated! And he's commenting on the popes shoes…heaven help us!
