New scientific tests on the Shroud of Turin date the cloth to ancient times, challenging earlier experiments that dated it only to the Middle Ages. It’s really disappointing to see the Huffington Post giving credence to such absolute rubbish — at the very least, could you please consult someone who is a specialist in early Christianity before publishing such nonsense. Even among the laity, who believes that this cloth from the middle ages has anything to do with the historical Jesus?…

When the question involves a god or messiah, do people just forget everything they know about physics or chemistry? Do they automatically accept that gravity doesn’t exist or that there is no evidence actually supporting their ideas and call that god? Did your god give you a brain that lets you learn all kinds of wonderful things about your environment until you butt up against a matter of faith? Does s/he just pick & choose what humans can or cannot learn? If god can trump all of science, why rely on it for medical, scientific, environmental, or otherwise answers? If science is not true in one instance, we must call into question *all* of our knowledge gained through science…

The shroud of turin is a fraud. Nothing more. Nothing less. Amazing how this cloth happened to capture “his” likeness – the hair, the beard, even the face – so well that it looks like the SAME image of christ you see in almost every single, worthless, religious painting depicting this so-called “son of god.” Pathetic…

I've sworn off the HP. I think it best not to even mention that site. I used to go on there and defend the faith and try to talk sense, but it's no use, and by reading that site, we contribute to their bottom line.

I quit reading that rag website a long time ago. The comments on most secular sites make me angry and I'm trying to control anger. I can't handle it so it's best to not read for me. The Catholic sites are also getting to me even some on National Catholic Register. There's a lot of trolls there too.

It's easier for them to think they are scientifically minded, intelligent, etc. if they constantly fuel their ignorance with hatred of the religion that gave them much of the science they feel negates the creators of the science. Sorry for being obtuse. Yes, Catholic scientists and priests were developers of so mucho science…the methodology, genetics, the Big Bang, etc. that its odd to hear these spoiled teenagers..I mean open minded liberals…claiming science ass their creation.
I'm wondering, was ther anyone else in creation history that made something…everything, and one of the products of his creation said, I claim all of this for me…hmmmm.

There is nothing more intolerant than a tolerant liberalsecularistatheistsocialisthumanist.
My understanding is that the new test were undertaken by real scientist interested in asserting the facts about this Shroud. As a matter of belief, the most important thing about the Shroud is that it appears to be an accurate representation of the type of wounds that a 1st century victim of crucifixion would have endured. To that end, as a Magisterium Catholic it is to me, what any accurate, faith-based art is to be a beautiful representation of a divine truth.
If it turns out that by scientific examination that it dates to the time of Christ, namely, the first century, that reinforces my understanding of Christ suffering for "the many" and that is more important than if it is his Shroud.
If it is ever established beyond a reasonable doubt that it is 1st Century and Christ's our brother and sisters at HP will likely not believe it to be true and for this they are in my prayers always.
