Interesting, since I just heard a report this morning about vandalism at a Catholic church in Baltimore.

One hate crime? How about one for each place paint was used. Welcome to the new world: It's OK to hate Catholics.

This is the first time I have heard of a hate crime being used to charge someone against vandalism, assault or any crime against someone or property because of Catholicism. Perhaps because select discrimination is ok. Perhaps the usual superficial reporting by media. But as one who thinks hate crime and thought police are all useless and unnecessary, I still think vandalism is adequate. Buuuuut…the fact this country and its "new racism" of special privileges and rights granting it is nice to be considered equal in the eyes of the hate crimes law, as it usually seems to have a religious exemption.
