Just what you want in a kids show about Disney characters. Bisexuality. Hey, it’s never to young to learn, you know.
You think about it, making Mulan bisexual in the ABC show Once Upon a Time isn’t really even thinking outside the box. Oh sure, make the princess who wanted to be one of the boys and fight in battles a bisexual. Yeah, that’s a leap. In fact, one could even say that ABC is stereotyping because their image of a bisexual isn’t the cute Snow White or the beautiful Sleeping Beauty. No, it’s the chick with the sword who dresses like a man. Way to go all 21st century guys. Sheesh.
The scene itself isn’t exactly in your face but it’s pretty clear what’s going on.

Ugh! And it doesn't hurt that Aurora is running around in her underwear… The whole point of Mulan is that she IS a girl and runs away to the army to do a son's work, but then comes back to do a daughter's work. Women can substitute for men in a pinch, as it were, without having to stop being women. This is just titillation — and a big dollop of "women who do anything men do are really lesbians" on top of that.
When I was a teenager I used to like Alan Moore, the comic book writer. Since those days he has gone on to champion anarchy (he wrote "V for Vendetta") and pornography. I read an interview with him a couple of years ago, in which he explained that he wanted to mainstream pornography and so his first work was a graphic novel about children's heroines (Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz is the only one I remember, and I wish I could forget that) and their adult pornographic sexual adventures with characters from the children's books. I have never seen a clearer example of the way evil seeks primarily to corrupt children and women. This is the same thing, only subtler and sugar-coated. You've got to ask, why children's characters? Why not new, adult characters if you want a little fantasy bisexuality? The answer is that it's about more than a sex fantasy for adults, it's about corruption.

I mean it doesnt' HELP that Aurora is in her underwear, which is what she apparently wears to water plants outside.

I wonder if the energy industry could somehow harness the tremendous heat being generated by the furious whirling going on in the grave of Walt Disney.

Many of the books in the public library now claim that Helen Keller was denied her freedom to practice her lesbianism, Michelangelo and Da Vinci, it is claimed were both homosexuals, using their fame to spread arrested development and corruption. Time for parents to really monitor their childrens' entertainment.

All people pass through same sex attraction at puberty; some get hung up, but now arrested development is the new Normal

Wait. Is the chick she's in love with married to the person she's expecting the baby with? If so, not only is she a lesbian, she's a home wrecker.

Wow you guys are all so pathetic. Gay people exist. Your children are bound to see them on the street someday. Get over it.
October 19, 2013 at 6:02 pm
@A yes, but you do not get to talk with my children without my permission. IN LOCO PARENTIS
October 19, 2013 at 7:16 pm
Should be that way, gay adult or straight adult. If one is a stranger, ask permission.
However, I believe the hang up would be yours: you'd deny a gay to talk to your children, while a pedophile priest would be no problem to you.
October 20, 2013 at 4:45 pm
@akg41470: There were, essentially, no pedophile priests. 96% of the victims were post-pubescent males. One who is sexually attracted to post-pubescents is not a pedophile, and a man attracted to other men is a homosexual.
So…denying gays the right to speak to their children would, ipso facto, protect them from predator-priests.
Also? At the height of the abuse, priests were less than 1/6 as likely to abuse as (step)fathers, (step)grandfathers, or mothers' boyfriends, all of whom together account for 38% of sexual abuse of minors. Long before there was a crackdown on priestly misbehavior, kids were still safer with priests than in their own homes.

Wow, rape apologetics. Where'd you get those stats from, Bill Donohue?

Donohue gets his stats from (let's see), Johns Hopkins University, the National Child Abuse and Neglect Data Systems, various newspapers, various books by scholars. He cites his sources and places them in statistical context (his doctorate is in sociology); you shout generalizations and innuendo, and respond to statistics with accusations. Yes, you're certainly a more authoritative commentator than he is.

The show isn't about Disney characters. It's about fairytale characters which happens to draw upon some Disney characters, but frankly most Disney characters are just cleaned up Grimm brother stories…..

Everybody seems to be missing the fact that OUAT is NOT a show for kids. It, much like most shows in primetime network television, is aimed at the 18-27 demographic.
The Dark Knight, featuring Batman and The Joker, also wasn't a kids movie, despite their history in comics and cartoons.

ABC is owned by Disney and therefor the show IS about Disney's versions of the characters. However, the real problem with this article is the fact that this scene from the show has been twisted from what was really going on. In a past season Mulan revealed that she was in love with Prince Phillip. It was not Princess Aurora she was going to confess her love for, it was Phillip. That is why she asked where he was. Go back and watch past seasons before making speculations about what is going on in the current one!
Gay or straight, I don't care…. let people be who they are, but don't twist things to try and make a point for your own opinions.

I agree, I was going to say the same thing.

Congrats on your knee-jerk reaction to a headline for a show you have obviously never seen. It's not a kid's show, it's a soap opera with fantasy elements. Think "Desperate Housewives", not "Micky Mouse Club."
October 21, 2013 at 12:35 am
To the author: If you're going to write a blog, perhaps you should be a real journalist and do some research before you start typing away. Once Upon a Time is not a children's show. Not to mention, that Mulan is NOT completely a disney creation. it's based on a poem called "Ballad of Mulan."
October 21, 2013 at 12:44 am
@grnhippie Normally I'd agree with you, but this is an ABC show, therefore a Disney show. Still, as @Robert Morris said, it's also not a kids' show. It's ultimately the parent's responsibility to monitor and control what their kid's watch. ABC/Disney can do whatever they want with the characters on their own show.

I'm not going to pull any punches here: Y'all are disgusting as fuck. OH BOOOOO, BISEXUALITY. Shut up, will you? It's natural. Think back to when you were a kid- some of you had crushes on the opposite sex, some of you maybe had crushes on the same sex. Didn't mean you wanted to bang the hell out of them- you could've been five, or nine, etc. Guess what? This happens with kids today too! And kids who are bisexual may have crushes on both sexes. Kids learn what you teach them- if you explain to your children with calm and understanding that it's okay for boys to like boys, girls to like girls, etc. (and this is extremely cisnormative, but I won't go into that) then they will get you. I resent the hell out of OP's word choice. "It's never too young to learn"? Fuck you, OP. Bisexuality isn't a learned behavior. And sexuality isn't a topic that should be confined to adult shows. "It's okay to be gay… if you're over 18"? Is that what you're trying to say? Meanwhile it's "cute" and "adorable" and even ENCOURAGED for little girls to crush on little boys, and vice versa? No. You can be gay or bi or pan or whatever and be a child. You might not have the words for it or the sexuality yet, but that doesn't mean you can't know who you're romantically attracted to. Read up on Rick Riordan, who recently revealed that an important character in his MIDDLE SCHOOL READING LEVEL series is not heterosexual- he handles this whole dilema a lot more eloquently (basicaly paraphrasing him rn).
And shut the hell up about how Disney is wrong for showing a masculine character as bisexual. Guess what, homophobes? BISEXUALS CAN BE AS MANLY AS THEY WANT. Your personality does not dictate your sexuality. You can be a feminine man and not be gay, you can be an extremely feminine lady and be a lesbian, you can be a warrior and be bisexual, and vice versa. You're probably thinking of the stereotype of a "butch lesbian"- which l-o-freakin-l, is a stereotype for a reason. As in, it's not true all the time. Sure, maybe it would've been nice to completely subvert the stereotype, but I digress. And we're not even completely sure of Mulan's sexuality? There's a ton of sexualities- just because Mulan likes dudes and ladies doesn't necessarily make her bi. It just makes her, well, not heterosexual.
TL;DR- Fuck you and the horse you rode in on, and get the hell out of the OUAT fandom.
