In the era of soft-drink bans and illegal trans-fats, why have we ceded the public policy debate on pornography?
We have public policy debates about every jot and tittle of our lives. Too much sugar is bad for you, so let’s ban 17 oz sodas. Cigarettes have been taxed into smoke. Every alcohol ad is accompanied by a fast-talking admonition to drink responsibly. Heck, people have even proposed to regulate gassy cows.
But when it comes to pornography, both the production and consumption of it, even those who recognize its evil and the myriad destructive effects on society throw their hands up.

It is the gateway to sexual imprisonment. A prison consisting of our cultures sexual identity, ideology and self indulgence. It can't be targeted anymore than the facilitators of consequence free sex…contraception and it's chemical and surgical backups. So like most political ideologies they demonize other things as a ruse. Pretty standard formula..hey look over there and not at how bad things really are.

This is not the way. This is what keeps you propping up the very sort of government that, eventually, comes after you. You want less porn? FAMILY FORMATION AT APPROPRIATE AGES!!! If the Church wants any headway in this compromise with the secular world has to stop and you have to get the young people married before deviant behavior starts to seem normal. You don't want a government that can ban porn; you want a government so weak and ineffectual that it can't bother us whenever we decide to stop playing games and build a real society. The poor substitutes for a solid married life will continue to exist and flourish as long as we continue to countenance a corporate/governmental model that prefers to extract the assets that we would use for family formation from us to serve their own ends. In previous ages, dowries would be given; in this age we get student loan debt on college degrees so dumbed down we should be able to sue for fraud.

Only TRUTH has freedom of speech, press and peaceable assembly. Pornography is a lie about human sexuality. Not only does it addict and destroy the human soul to this perjury and violation of decency, pornography impinges upon the minor child’s uninformed sexual consent and the child’s civil rights to his innocence and virginity. The minor child’s parents’ hold the minor child’s civil rights in trust for him until the age of majority when the child is able to reject such mind kidnapping and soul raping of his innocence. It is the duty of the state to protect innocence to deliver Justice. The Preamble of our constitution spells out the purpose of the state, among which is “to secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our (constitutional posterity, all future generations)” George Washington’s posterity have a right to decency and truth and it is the duty of the state to secure decency and truth for all.

When K-Mart refused to remove pornography from the eyelevel of minor children, Donald Wildmon of the American Family boycotted K-Mart and the Baptists removed their pensions. K-Mart lost its credit rating and the CEO was sent away. K-Mart is now the New K-Mart with pornography behind the counter wrapped in plain brown paper. Pornography does nothing but encourage men to sexually abuse children. Devils do not watch pornography . The devils make sure that you do.

" in this age we get student loan debt on college degrees so dumbed down we should be able to sue for fraud. " Excellent thought.
