For years all we’ve heard is that the Church is slouching toward irrelevancy. MMMMmmmm. Psyche.
Pope Francis is the name most mentioned on the interwebs, according to a global survey.
CNA reports:
“It’s official: Pope Francis is the most talked about person on the planet,” CNN’s “Belief Blog” co-editor Daniel Burke wrote in a Nov. 12 post.
“More folks have been chatting about the popular new pontiff online this year than Edward Snowden, Kate Middleton or even Miley Cyrus.”
Miley pushes sex. Pope Francis pushes love. In the end, love wins.

If your bar is Miley Cyrus, that's pretty low. The papacy had a bit of a head start, don't you think?

Maybe people can learn from this that you don't have to sell yourself out to become popular.

Sorry, popularity does not equal relevancy.

Considering all the confusing, unclear statements PF has been making since he assumed the Papacy, him being more popular than Cyrus doesn't impress me much.

Hmm. I don't see this as a "good", at all. If the world is loving him, there's something seriously wrong with the message he's putting out there. But that's just me.

Popularity with the world doesn't bode well with me in things spiritual. It should be a red flag if anything. But, it's still nice that people are at least thinking of something of more substance than Miley.

Which brings up an interesting prediction. Only rank Anti-Catholicism will be to blame if Pope Francis is NOT Time Magazine's Person of the Year.

It is the anti-Catholics that are making him so "popular" with their hype.
