Why don’t they just say they have no idea where humans come from? Is that so hard?
Christian News reports:
A Ph.D. geneticist is receiving both support and criticism following his claim that humans evolved after a chimpanzee mated with a pig.
Eugene McCarthy is a geneticist from Georgia who founded the blog MacroEvolution.net. McCarthy received B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in genetics from the University of Georgia, where he worked as a researcher until 2007. On his Google+ profile, McCarthy describes himself as an “evolutionary theorist.”
Earlier this year, McCarthy published a lengthy article on MacroEvolution.net titled “Human Origins: Are we hybrids?” In the article, McCarthy suggests that humans evolved after a female chimpanzee mated with a pig.
“We believe that humans are related to chimpanzees because humans share so many traits with chimpanzees,” McCarthy writes. “Is it not rational then also, if pigs have all the traits that distinguish humans from other primates, to suppose that humans are also related to pigs?”
McCarthy believes hybridization is a reasonable explanation for the origin of humans, suggesting that “perhaps Darwin told only half the story.”
One question that comes to mind is that monkeys mate for life. Pigs don’t. So it seems to me that, according to this guy, humanity started with a jilted monkey. Kinda’ sad, right?
And the Christian creation story is a bad one? Hey, at least ours doesn’t feature a poor moonstruck monkey.
And now, for your viewing pleasure a picture of a very sad melancholic monkey.

So inspiring, though it might explain why people sling a lot of…

What baffles me is why this absurd theory got any attention at all. And I say that as a person who believes in evolution.

Pretty much explains sophomores. Happily, they get over it.

…Capuchin monkeys form life-long pair-bonds, sorta, as do some other kinds of monkeys (a lot more mate for life polygamously). Ditto gibbons. Orangs and gorillas mate polygamously, often for life. Chimpanzees, the ones under discussion here, do not have any kind of stable mating structure. Of course, chimpanzees aren't monkeys.
How is this person a professional geneticist, if he's postulating a hybrid between two lineages that diverged tens of millions of years ago? The lineage that includes even-toed ungulates (like pigs), which also includes the one that dogs and cats are in, split off before primates were distinguishable from rodents. We're probably talking Paleocene, there may still have been (non-bird) dinosaurs in Antarctica or Australia at the time!
No species could hybridize across those boundaries. You can't even successfully hybridize leopards and pumas, on the rare occasions they can interbreed at all the offspring have dwarfism and they don't live very long. The big and small cats are one hell of a lot more closely related than primates are to pigs.
Someone please tell me this guy's degree is fake.

"Professing themselves wise, they became fools". What some people will do to deny the traditional teaching of special creation! Chimpigzee indeed!

Georgia needs to give that boy every nickel of his tuition back and take away every thing he has that's black and red. And then take back his Dawgs sticker! Really. Unbelievable!

Unfortunately, no, it appears to be real. However, everyone else in the world, except for some ignorant scandal-mongering bloggers, knows that the proposed hybridization is impossible and the man has obviously gone well off his rocker.
