The Archdiocese of Philadelphia has instituted an interesting program called “Mass Mob.”
Catholics from the Philadelphia area will come together periodically to attend Mass at the same time in some of the beautiful and historic churches the Archdiocese of Philadelphia has to offer. This is a way of joining together as well as in support of the Parish communities.
The first Mass en masse will be held on Sunday March 23rd at beautiful St. Francis Xavier in Philadelphia at the 11:30 Mass. Future mass mob meetings will be forthcoming via social media.
Seems like an interesting idea to me.
If it’s a success though, as a parishioner I’d like to know beforehand so I could leave a little earlier. The last thing I’d want to find when I get the kids out the door for Mass on Sunday morning is our pew is filled with some Mass mob punks.
I also hope there’s not a spinoff charismatic Mass mob that starts doing hand motions and whoopin’ and hollerin’ throughout Mass. That’d be weird.

Just a reminder: there is only one Order of Deacon in the Catholic Church. There are no such entities as "permanent deacon" and "transitional deacon." If you are ordained deacon and then your bishop should decide against ordaining you to the presbyteral order, you remain a deacon…permamently.

Anyone notice he said "Us secular folks…" Freudian slip?

Mark Shea says Deacon Sandy is okey dokey. It's not like he is politicizing the mass or anything. That only happens in traditionalist circles.

I think this is a wonderful idea, especially for places that have beautiful, old churches.
But, I have to ask a question. What do you have against enthusiast, old Catholics?
March 11, 2014 at 2:20 pm
Yes, you are right. But there are some slight differences which make me transitional deacon, and them permanent. Am I wrong?

Deacon Sandy….and I thought you were a nice guy. Goofy as a three dollar bill, but a nice guy.
Now we see under the smile and Mr. Rodgers demeanor you have an ice pick for a heart and flame thrower for a tongue.

What an embarrassment. Does "Deacon Sandy" know that the red shoes are red because of the blood of the martyrs? This man is a leftover from the 1970s, a fruit dying on the vine, a direct reason for the dying of the faith. The congregation is old, aging hippies. What a pathetic mess. This is why I love the mass of all ages, the thousands of years of Catholic tradition before 1970, when the Catholic faith apostatized. What a mess. I urge everyone to check out Archbishop Sample’s recent homily from his pontifical high mass in Seattle. The fine Archbishop says it all.

This deacon (the whole idea of a permanant deaconate is joke, by the way) will become more and more prevalent with the "Spirit of Pope Francis".
Soon, even the NeoCons over at Kark Keating's Catholic Answers (who have recently ramped up his calumny on Traditionalists, likely out of fear) will not be able to defent the uncatholic teaching and rupture coming out of Rome.

While I recommend that people do write to Archbishop Listecki about this, I also recommend not holding your breath that he will do anything whatsoever about it. It is daily becoming quite clear that Archbishop Listecki is as uninspiring as his immediate predecessors.

haha – Good one… It's not like he is saying mass with "his back to the people" or anything!
March 11, 2014 at 3:04 pm
Careful, Marke Shea might show up frothing and calling names in his hysterical mannar… Please dont get him summoned!
March 11, 2014 at 3:05 pm
Yup – Sadly, in "full communion" – But the good priests at the Society of Saint Pius X. They are "Schismatic" becuase they point problems like this out and say the mass it was supposed to be said, prior to the council that caused this

I would think he would be more of a fan of Progressive Insurance?
March 11, 2014 at 3:08 pm
Well, yes, but this is not an example of heresy. It's not even an example of schism. It's slander, which is a sin, but not all sins are heresies.

meh. I notice the church is basically empty. No wonder. Let the dead bury the dead.
Perhaps the pastor of the parish should bear some responsibility. Regardless of what Deacon Sandy says, the pastor IS his immediate superior.
March 11, 2014 at 3:13 pm
There's no point in contacting the bishop. He won't do a darn thing.
March 11, 2014 at 3:44 pm
This man is an embarrassment to my order and my vocation.
March 11, 2014 at 3:56 pm
He may not, but after you contact him, you can go to Rome and get a good hearing.
March 11, 2014 at 3:56 pm
The deacon IS the pastor.

They've been doing this in Buffalo NY and it's given a lot of parishes a real finanacial shot in teh arm. I'm so glad my hometown is doing this too.
