Religion should be as illegal as racism, says actor Chris O’Dowd. And we should all listen to him because he’s an actor. I mean, if appearing in the movie Bridesmaids isn’t criteria for a public bullhorn then what is?

Hey look, Bill Maher may retire someday and need someone to fill in. It would appear Mr. O’Dowd is auditioning to step in.

The Corner reports:

Religion will eventually be widely held to be as reprehensible as racism, predicts actor Chris O’Dowd. He also speculates that President Obama only pretended to adhere to Christianity to get elected.

“I mean, you really think that Barack Obama believes in God? No way!” said O’Dowd, who is known for his roles in Bridesmaids and Girls. The fact that Americans wouldn’t elect a nonreligious president is proof that “we’re f***ed,” he said in a profile with British GQ.

Overall, O’Dowd expects that humanity will come around and begin to denounce religion as a view as objectionable as racism.

“There’s going to be a turning point where it’s going to be like racism,” the Irish actor said. “You know, ‘You’re not allowed to say that weird s**t! It’s mad! And you’re making everybody crazy!’”

O’Dowd said he used to respect others and their faiths, but has since started “growing less liberal” towards those who practice religion. “I’m more like, ‘No, religion is ruining the world, you need to stop!’”
