I wrote a piece for The National Catholic Register on this topic two months ago. This decision by the Vatican is a big deal. Pray for The Fairfield Carmelites.

Prior to Benedict’s reforms (i.e. Benedict as in The Rule of St. Benedict, Benedict, not the deserter pope) monasteries were autonomous. Bringing them under the shadow of the dark empire was a mistake.

The nuns had their Pennsylvania property up for sale. Father David Hewko with the SSPX marian corps made an offer on the property. He would like to start a traditional monastic community. The nuns refused the sale because Father was affiliated with the sspx. This is a couple months ago. I just sent the nuns an email asking them to prayfully reconsider this sale. The deal would be mutually beneficial as it would give the nuns both a cash infusion to finish their new monestary and they would be assured of the traditional rite and sacraments if they wish to carry on their chrism of the rule of St. Theresa in the traditional rite. It would also be the beginning of a vibrant traditonal community of Catholic priests. We are now in the catacombs and its time to start thinking outside the box. Archbishop Lefebvre warned that we can no longer trust Rome. This is proof of it.

Al,
You need to distinguish properties. I live in the diocese.
The property for sale is the older convent, in Elysburg, in the northern part of the diocese. It was an older convent, built in the ‘50’s.
Fairfield is in the southern part of the diocese, near Gettysburg.

Archbishop Lefebvre was ultimately disobedient which broke his priestly vow. He also disregarded the Second Vatican Council, and ecumenical council of the universal church and directed under the auspices of the Holy Spirit, which is heresy. An appeal to keeping Tradition will not excuse disobedience, heresy and schism before the Lord.

He was never accused of heresy. Odd that you make that claim. Odder still since VII was pastoral and not dogmatic. That was not what got him in hot water. Meh…

I hope they can resist the Vatican mandated changes to reorganize vs remaining independent.

I watched the latest interview with their chaplain and am heart broken at this turn of events.
Bergoglio has his own agenda and doesn’t care about the church’s teachings or traditions.
I was hoping that perhaps these nuns would seek shelter from the SSPX. At any rate I will continue to pray for them, their chaplain and all cloistered orders.
