I’ve been predicting doom for our culture for about a decade. I just don’t see it as escapable. But a teeny tiny little piece of me was always hoping I was wrong. Just a teeny tiny one.
But now that I see Peter Kreeft is saying the same thing, that teeny tiny piece just died.
“We are hobbits facing orcs,” says Catholic author Peter Kreeft. “There’s horrendous stuff in the future…but it’s a fixed fight.”
God sent us into a battlefield, not a garden.

we would rather not have this battle, but we must take hope because the war is won. Christ be praised!

You are absolutely correct Patricia.

It doesn’t take a degree in aerospace engineering to predict what will happen to a plane once its wings come off.
That said, calling us “hobbits” is a bit much; we are not the “secret heroes of this movie”.

Peter Kreeft is brilliant. A shining light at Boston College!

I wonder if he still believes in an “ecumenical jihad”?

It is difficult to talk about what is probably ahead. People think you are a depressing pessimist. Many still believe that we will make earth God’s kingdom before He returns. Now that is depressing!

I find it interesting that he has been predicting this for about a decade. I also find it interesting that others have been predicting this idea for hundreds of years and longer. I have too much faith in Christianity and God for his warnings to come true. There is too much good in the world.

Excellent. Those who help the least are the complete answer to those who whine.

How do we answer these current times? Saints! To paraphrase Venerable Fulton Sheen.

Pesimistic viewpoint. P. Kreeft is an enjoyable theologian and author, not a certified prophet. it’s just his opinion folks.

Professor Peter Kreeft is a great philosopher, a great writer and a great teacher!
I am at Brazil and his books are a great help for my work as a priest and a teacher at our Catholic University.
May God bless him!

I also believe in what Peter is saying. I am 73 years old and am seeing drastic changes which are getting worse. look at the facts:
1. Legalization of homosexuality
2. Legalization of gender affirming surgery and abortion. For adults and minors
3. More gun violence
4. More mentally unstable in populace
5. Protestant churches in disarray.
6. German Catholic church in disarray.
7. Legalization of marijuana and drugs
8. More street violence and robbery
list goes on like Sodom and Gomorrah

Besides #5 (there is only the church, protesters are in disarray by definition) and #6 (there is no German Catholic Church; there is only the church, and why shouldn’t Europe still be a mess after Naziism and Communism proved few Europeans were Christian?), every other problem on your list is clearly due to untreated brain disease causing psychosis. Contribute to neurological medical research and the quick implementation of free cures. Support constructive legislation that restores and saves lives. You’re not an immaterial being. You require a brain to function. It’s extremely complex, and God allows us to be damaged and wants us to be repaired. Don’t attribute personal sin to insane behavior and beliefs. People don’t choose chaos. It is visited upon them, so that God’s will — that he solves problems through us when we solve our own problems in a purely constructive and wise manner — will be done.

I wonder what this supposed deity (absolutely no empirical evidence that a loving, omnipotent deity exists) thinks of her/ his/its work product, and this deity would not intervene.
If this deity exists, it is arbitrary, capricious, inept, and quite frankly doesn’t give a damn.
November 30, 2022 at 3:51 pm
You can think. You don’t need to wonder. God is proud of our radically constructive achievements in recent years. We are obviously, in a word, inspired.
