She seems nice.
Kosovo Online: Sanija Ameti, a councilwoman from Zurich’s Liberal Green Party and originally from Kosovo, found herself at the center of a scandal after posting on social media a video of herself shooting at an image of the Virgin Mary holding Jesus Christ.
Following this shocking post, Ameti was met with a wave of criticism.
She had posted a photo showing her shooting at an image, which local media reports claim is a reproduction by a medieval Italian artist, taken from an illustrated catalog.
After a series of negative reactions, Sanija Ameti removed the post and apologized.
She explained that she had used the image from the catalog because it had been “the right size and visible enough” to serve as a target.
“I didn’t pay attention to the content of the image,” Sanija Ameti claimed, acknowledging that it was wrong and calling her actions “absolutely foolish.”
Several conservative politicians condemned Ameti’s actions and called for her resignation. Some accused her of inciting hatred against Christians and threatened to take legal action.
Among them was Nicolas Rimoldi, president of the Mass-Voll movement. He announced his intention to file a criminal complaint against Ameti, accusing her of disturbing religious freedom. According to Swiss law, anyone who publicly insults or mocks the religious beliefs of others or “attacks” religious objects can be fined.
Whoops! That law was only intended to punish people who offended Muslims, not those icky Christians, right? I love how she posted images of herself doing this and then feigned to be shocked when Christians were offended. She claimed to have not paid any attention at all to the image on the targets. Ugh. This is how stupid they are and how stupid they think you are.
Look, if this is one of those countries that are throwing Christians in jail for reading Scripture passages out loud to Muslims or gay pride parades then toss her A$$ in jail. I’m not for that kind of thing but if those are the rules, at least let’s have both sides be forced to play by them, right?

Who wakes up in the morning and says, “I think I’ll shoot up a picture of the Blessed Mother today” ?
I am glad that I am old and close to getting out of this nutty world.

Some people really believe that there is no such thing as bad publicity. There’s a small chance that she did this merely to when draw attention to herself, sort of like The Buoys released the song “Timothy”, which was about cannibalism.
More likely, though, a more complete knowledge of her character and beliefs would render this unsurprising.
Along those same lines, one must wonder how many of our own politicians perform little acts of ritual sacrilege like this. Don’t tell me that the governments that shut down churches during the pandemic or the politicians who are rushing to protect abortion would never do such a thing.

She’s also Muslim. Forgot to put that in your article.

I didn’t know. Thanks.

I wonder how other Muslims have reacted to this. Muslims have traditionally been fond of “Miriam”, so I would think that they would not approve of this woman’s behavior.

From what I’ve been able to find about her, she was much more into the Green Liberal Party than into Islam. She was raised Muslim, but it’s not clear whether she is in any sense practicing. Like a lot of Catholic politicians, it appears she only claims her religion when it is convenient.
