Democrat Delaware Governor Matt Meyer, signed House Bill 140 into law which approves of terminally ill adults to request and self-administer life-ending medication — with full government and medical backing.
Under the new law, once a mentally competent individual is diagnosed with a terminal illness and deemed to have six months or less to live, doctors and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) are empowered to prescribe death-inducing drugs.
The individual must perform the final act themselves—swallowing the pills in private, without medical oversight at the time of death.
Governor Meyer emphasized that the legislation promotes compassion, dignity, and respect for individual choice.
Here’s the thing. Suicide devalues human life and will only become increasing prevalent in the years to come. The six months to live requirement will be tossed and will morph into it’s ok to kill yourself if you have the sadz.
Also, we have a for profit healthcare system. How long until those big businesses have sway on opening up the floodgates for who can commit suicide. Maybe those with very expensive treatments?
Some patients in Oregon and California, where this is legal, have already received word that their health insurance will pay for assisted suicide but will not pay for treatment that may sustain their lives.
One other thing. The six month thing. Does that mean you have six months to live with treatments or without treatments?
This always will end with elderly people being pushed to kill themselves rather than becoming a drain on their children and grandchildren. C’mon, do you wanna’ spend all your money on these stupid treatments that will help you stay in the assisted care facility for another six months or would you like to be able to will your money to your children and grandchildren? Seems pretty selfish to just think of yourself, huh?

All life is sacred and every day has something to teach us. In the end, it may be using that pain to pray for other souls. It may be learning to ask for help. It may also be your kids learning to help others.
A society that runs a cost-benefit analysis on human life will always eventually come down on the side of cost. And it will soon cease to exist.

Like all bad ideas, it will not be just for those who are terminally ill. Eventually you’ll see the mentally ill being pushed to accept their self-inflicted demise, later on, someone will have the power of attorney to have someone put to death because of certain ‘medical’ conditions etc…Government and medical sponsored death never remains with the victims for whom this law came into being. It spreads out exponentially to people with other medical and mental conditions. We’ve been here before.

I get that this bill is about dignity and choice, but I agree with your point about how it could end up putting vulnerable people at risk—especially the elderly who might feel pressured to end their lives rather than burden their families.
