Today’s a big day for conservatives concerned about the Supreme Court (and who isn’t?) Neil Gorsuch was sworn in today. If anyone had any question about how concerned Catholics are about the Supreme Court, this story is a good indication.
Today, Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary announced that it will award a Doctor of Humane Letters degree, honoris causa, to United States Supreme Court Associate Justice Samuel A. Alito at its Concursus ceremony on Wednesday, May 17, 2017. Justice Alito will also give the Concursus address. Concursus is the seminary’s annual graduation ceremony where academic degrees are awarded to seminarians as well as religious and lay students enrolled in its college and graduate degree programs.
The Seminary’s Rector, Bishop Timothy C. Senior, said, “Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary is extremely pleased to honor Justice Alito for his outstanding legal contributions to our nation and for his unswerving dedication to public service. The Seminary community looks forward to welcoming him and to what he will share with us.”
Justice Alito will join a distinguished list of honorary degree recipients from the Seminary including Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Judge Genevieve Blatt, Mr. William Fishman and Pennsylvania Chief Justice Robert N.C. Nix, inter alios.
