So scientists have discovered that sometimes chimps do stupid things that make no sense. And they are therefore equating this with humans who do stupid things that make no sense – like believe in God and act all religiousy and stuff.
New footage shows chimpanzees engaging in bizarre behaviour — which might be a form of sacred ritual that could show the beginnings of a kind of religious belief.
Chimpanzees in West Africa have been spotted banging and throwing rocks against trees and throwing them into gaps inside, leading to piles of rocks. Those rocks do not appear to be for any functional purpose — and might be an example of an early version of ritual behaviour.
The discovery might help researchers learn more about the basis of human religion and rituals, and how such activities formed in our own history.
Bizarre behavior. I mean, from the scientists.
You’ve got to love how these weirdoes need to search for an explanation for religious people. They view the religious as so “bizarre” and then see corollaries in the activities of chimps. The interesting thing is that they’re acting like chimps themselves, striving to be alphas and looking down their nose at others. And because they’re scientists you just know there’s no alphas there. Let’s just say high school wasn’t a fun time for them so they’re exacting their revenge.
And let’s posit for a moment that perhaps this strange rock throwing and piling business does seem to suggest some belief in God by the chimps. Then that would just make the chimps smarter than the scientist.
