Don’t judge a book by its cover and all that…
Remember Paul Potts from Britain’s Got Talent? Well meet Paula Potts aka Susan Boyle. I absolutely love stuff like this and I hope you do too. Enjoy!

I don’t own a tv (yes that’s a choice), but today I wish I did. I cried when she sang and my heart was so full of joy when I heard the wonderful words of the judges. Thanks. (I’m not gonna get a tv again, but I am thankful that it’s not all rubbish left to watch on it) 🙂

As a choir director/vocal instructor of just under 40 years of experience, I can attest that there are many, many “Susan Boyles” who are your neighbors, your childrens’ friends, the clerk at their station, whatever….out “there.”
The power that is within “Susan Boyles” that overwhelmed Simon, his fellows and the audiences, is that this woman had the temerity and audacity (darn our Prez!) to see her way to that stage and that performance passed all the obvious and hidden obstacles that serve to discourage true beauty and goodness, and which celebrates and idolizes the package, the commodity, the transient.
Her vocal talent, as impressive as this seems, is (IMHO) not a perfect, God-granted and pure instrument. But her will to work and hone it according to what is at work in her soul and spirit is a pure example of God’s grace and inspiration.
Absolute irony on display: “I dreamed a dream” from “Les Miserables.”
Simon’s smile midway through her performance betrays his smirky and smarmy white lie that he knew of this woman’s abilities in some prescient way. His world will always keep the “Susan Boyles” outside the bubble of celebrity.

I saw this last night and have a link on my blog to the YouTube version of this clip. What I love about her, in addition to her obvious vocal talent is her saucy, sassy attitude. I think I’d love her even if she couldn’t sing–but she can!

Truly inspirational. 🙂 And she’s a great singer!

Interesting attempt at a segue, Anonymous, but thankfully we have their WORDS as well as their pictures to help us judge their work.

My 8th grade daughter saw this in school today, English class (yes they watch YouTube in public school). The teacher presented it as a lesson about not judging a book by its cover.
