Wow. This priest says it all.
According to The Catholic Spirit:
A Belgian priest told a Vatican academy that U.S. President Barack Obama’s pro-abortion policies will lead the United States toward totalitarianism.
“By removing legal safeguards for the protection of life,” Obama will increase the number of victims of criminal laws, said Father Michel Schooyans, a retired professor of theology and philosophy at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium.
A democratic society that allows people in power to invoke “subjective ‘new rights’ that allow for the elimination of certain categories of human beings is a society well on the way to totalitarianism,” he said May 1.
Father Schooyans made his comments on the first day of a five-day plenary assembly of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences. He later sent Catholic News Service an English translation of his presentation.
The academy, headed by the former U.S. ambassador to the Vatican, Mary Ann Glendon, met to discuss Catholic social doctrine and human rights…
The Belgian priest said subjective human rights do not stem from reason and natural law, but from the will and whims of the individual.
Such “new rights” being advanced today include the right to abortion, euthanasia, genetic engineering and pedophilia, he said.
He said Obama is “reintroducing the right to discriminate, to set aside certain human beings” in his refusal to recognize and protect the right to life and liberty for every person, including the unborn.
As a consequence, a new kind of racism is being put in place in the U.S., he said.
Once, the U.S. took pride in its claim to be the best model of democracy in the world, but “with permission for the legal slaughter of innocents, this claim is foundering,” he said.
Now a new “messianism” is appearing and trying to eradicate the moral principles upon which the U.S. was founded, he said.
“Henceforth the will of the president takes precedence. In his own words, the president no longer has to refer to the moral and religious traditions of humanity. His will is the source of law,” said Father Schooyans.
The U.S. administration’s actions concerning the right to life and freedom of conscience risk influencing others and being spread to the rest of the world through the international channels of the United Nations, he said.
“We are witnessing the emergence of a politico-legal terrorism without precedent in history,” he said, urging people to defend the life of every human being.
Father Schooyans told CNS May 11 that he heard “some academy members had the impression that the text was too strong.” He said most academy members are “very prudent” and tend to put out texts that are more “diplomatic.”
However, he said, “in some circumstances I think it is better to tell exactly what must be said.”
This priest understands that God and not man is the only moral basis for our rights. The moment we say that rights can be granted by a man or a group of men those same rights can then also be taken away by man. No man-given right can ever be unalienable.
The American philosophy is that every human being has rights which are unalienable because they are granted by his Creator.
And it is inevitable because of human nature that the government will become a rights allotting entity that grants rights to some at the expense of others which is actually already the case with abortion.
Government works by precedent. What happens now will occur more frequently with the passage of time. In short, the horrors will likely only escalate until America once again realizes that God, and not man, is the source of our unalienable rights.
