Idiots. Political opportunists using Catholicism as a cudgel to beat in the brains of anyone serous about restraining out of control debt spending.
Rep. Paul Ryan has been taking flak from church groups – including the relatively conservative U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and the somewhat more liberal group Nuns on the Bus—because his budget could cut money from programs for the poor and elderly.
Now a group of fellow Catholics from his home state of Wisconsin, including some Franciscan Friars, are calling for the vice presidential hopeful’s “conversion.” The group launched a website, PrayforPaulsChangeofHeart.org, that asks visitors to “Please pray for Paul Ryan, a devout Catholic, to have a change of heart on the federal budget.” It includes a special Rosary prayer to St. Paul, “the great convert,” to bring about a transformation in the anti-deficit Republican.
Pray for Paul Ryan, because God loves deficits.

Ugh….per the Path to Prosperity charts contained in Appendix 1, Social Security, Medicare, and "Medicaid & other health" all continue to get more money every year, it's just less "more money" than the current non-budget of continuing resolutions.

I saw that bit of nonsense this morning. Sigh. Why is it that the same folks who have no problem tossing out the non-negotiables are so insistent that their ideas on the prudential judgment stuff are absolute dogma?

Is there a monastery that we can put these misguided fools in until after the election?

I put in a prayer request on their website. I prayed that individual people would help the poor and stop expecting government to do it because leaving our children with crippling debt is immoral. I prayed that people will have a change of heart and stop expecting the government to do everything because that is communism and communism hates religion.

"the somewhat more liberal group Nuns on the Bus" HA HA HA HA HA HA HA. SOMEWHAT more liberal? BTW Nuns on the Bus claim that Paul Ryan's budget is immoral — not just that it's wrong, or that they don't like it, or that it's one of several possible ways to address the budget. They alone are the arbiters of what is moral and immoral, and they came up with it all by themselves.

I would be all the more impressed if the 'Nuns on the bus' proposed the rosary prayer, but they're probably too busy singing 99 bottles of bear …
