I didn’t think that the situation with the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate could get much worse.
I was wrong. By an order of magnitude. If reports are even in the vicinity of accurate, the Vatican imposed leadership at the FFI is out of control and the religious order just became a jail.
Rorate Caeli reports that Commissioner Volpi has suspended six friars “a divinis” for the crime of seeking incardination in dioceses rather that continue to suffer under the draconian ruler of the FFI.
This penalty, the harshest on available usually reserved for acts of grave matter, has been imposed for doing what many do each year, leave a religious order and seek incardination in a diocese, which is no crime at all.
Further, Vopli is said to have imposed the canonical censure while violating all the canonical rules that govern its imposition. Specifically, “normal procedure that includes the right to defense and only after two admonitions administered within a certain period of time. Commissioner Volpi instead communicated to the Friars the admonitions and the suspension at the same time, sending three letters at the same time, and in this way lacking the formal conformity to norms that is expected in these situations. “
As if this was all not bad enough, nobody will allowed to leave the order for three years!!
That. Is. Insane.
These friars are in jail serving a three year sentence without a trial. What could possibly justify such action? One can only surmise that they are determined to drive these men from the priesthood for the crime of ‘crypto-lefebvrianism’ and they will be not allowed any escape into a diocese. They want them gone.
This is a travesty of unspeakable proportions and it is up to the Holy Father to put an end to this madness.
