I was in the bleachers watching the kids at track practice yesterday. They’re easy to spot as they’re usually behind everyone. But my second grader who’s too young for CYO was running up and down the bleachers.
A man I was speaking with was asking me how homeschooling was going and I told him it was great. And the kids seem happy, I told him. He looked over my shoulder at my second grader and asked her what she was doing. She slowed down and said, “training.”
“Training?” he asked incredulously. “Training for what?”
“For what I want to be when I grow up,” she answered matter of factly.
Then the obvious question. “What do you want to be when you grow up?” he asked.
“A vigilante,” she answered matter-of-factly, and continued running up and down the bleachers.
I found myself alone on the bleachers shortly after.
I’m pretty sure I’m giving homeschooling a bad name.
