Wow. Props to Fr. Sean Sheehy for speaking the truth about Catholic teaching. Watch it here, courtesy of Complicit Clergy. Watch it. The truth is refreshing. Sadly, dozens of Catholics walked out over the homily.
Predictably, this good priest was immediately undercut by his bishop.
LifeSiteNews.com reports: After the priest’s homily caused consternation among the media, Kerry’s Bishop Ray Browne issued a statement on November 1, roundly condemning Sheehy for his outlining of Catholic teaching.
“I am aware of the deep upset and hurt caused by the contents of the homilies in question delivered over the weekend,” began Browne. “I apologize to all who were offended.”
The bishop further falsely stated that Sheehy’s views were not Catholic. “The views expressed do not represent the Christian position,” he declared. “The homily at a regular weekend parish Mass is not appropriate for such issues to be spoken of in such terms. I regret that this has occurred while a parish pilgrimage to the Holy Land is taking place.”
In what way is anything the good priest said “not Catholic?”
It is a sad day when the utterance of actually Catholic teaching shocks a bishop. Is he so unaware of what the Church actually teaches? Or does he just mean that it’s un-Catholic to actually mention actual Church teaching?
It has become increasingly common to believe that the only real commandment God gave us was to be “nice” to others and that this commandment supersedes all others. And being nice just means tipping your hat to someone who passes you by even though you know he’s heading for a cliff.
It’s nice to tip your hat but it’s loving to warn them of the approaching cliff.
