Hey, remember when liberal Catholics used to argue that dissent was a high calling and that dissent was good for the Church?
Yeah, me too.
I guess Pope Francis didn’t get a harrumph from Cardinal Burke.
AP: Pope Francis has decided to punish one of his highest-ranking critics, Cardinal Raymond Burke, by revoking his right to a subsidized Vatican apartment and salary in the second such radical action against a conservative American prelate this month, according to two people briefed on the measures.
Francis told a meeting of the heads of Vatican offices last week that he was moving against Burke because he was a source of “disunity” in the church, said one of the participants at the Nov. 20 meeting. The participant spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to reveal the contents of the encounter.
Francis said he was removing Burke’s privileges of having a subsidized Vatican apartment and salary as a retired cardinal because he was using the privileges against the church, said another person who was subsequently briefed on the pope’s measures. That person also spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to reveal the details.
This is meant to silence critics. This is politics. In fact, this is head on a pike politics. Pope Francis is telling his critics that he will come for them if they persist. He is telling them that he will be ruthless. He speaks of unity but demands silence. And sadly, many many Catholics don’t find any problem with this. This is sad.

“Love your enemies. Do good to them that hate you.” Who was it who said that, now?
Ah well — it won’t be too much longer before God removes Pope Francis’ subsidised apartment and salary too. He’d better enjoy himself while he still can.

Yours is an example of the enmity towards Pope Francis that Cardinal Burke has encouraged. Do you happen to attend the TLM? The TLM’s “apartments” and “salaries” will also be removed eventually. Move to the novus ordo.

The pope doesn’t need any help from anyone to encourage enmity toward him. His protection of Father Rapenik alone is guaranteed to get people upset with him.
Don’t hold your breath waiting for the authentic Roman Rite to go away. If Paul VI couldn’t get rid of it, and it continues to thrive despite Pope Francis’ attacks on it, we can be sure that it, like all of the ancient, apostolic rites of the Church, is here to stay.
Meanwhile “Novus Ordo” parishes continue to dry up and blow away at an ever increasing rate. Interesting how that works.

This is why people generally don’t like Trads. Pope Francis was right about you people, and you can’t stand it.

Im no TLM-person (although I am never one to kill one’s own history)…but Interestingly enough, I have seen in my travels, multiple forms of the novus ordo with more latin and greek, as well as some ad orientem mixed in too. Whether PF intended this or not, I am glad to see the often abused NO form of the mass being encouraged so that it becomes more beautiful than so many ‘progressives’ have distorted it into.
