It is reported that this miracle has taken place since at least 1389. Amazing.
When this happens, all the other craziness and cowardice going on in the Church recedes into background noise at least for a minute. I keep reading that Pope Francis has said that blessings on same-sex couples are good. I know the Jesuit thing is to thread the needle because he’s saying that you’re blessing the people, not their union. But this will lead more souls astray. This will confuse more people who will think the Church is coming around on this issue and within a decade or two, same sex activity will not be a sin at all.
This undermines anyone working to evangelize homosexuals. It does.
But God is at work in the world. I must have faith. Despite everything down here going so poorly, God is at work. I would like to, however, formally request an uptick in miracles. Thank you. We really need them right now.
CNA: The Archdiocese of Naples, Italy, announced that the miracle of the liquefaction of the blood of St. Januarius was repeated Saturday at the end of a Mass honoring him as the patron saint of the city.
The Italian archdiocese reported on Facebook that at 10:35 a.m. on Dec. 16 “the announcement of the liquefaction of the blood of St. Januarius was made” at the end of the Eucharist celebrated in the Royal Chapel of the Treasure of St. Januarius in the Naples cathedral.
The Mass was celebrated by Monsignor Vincenzo De Gregorio, “on the occasion of the feast of the patronage of St. Januarius, which is traditionally accompanied by the hope of the prodigious liquefaction of the blood of the patron saint,” the archdiocese said on its website.
The miracle of liquefaction traditionally occurs three times a year: in commemoration of the transfer of his remains to Naples (the Saturday before the first Sunday in May), on his liturgical feast (Sept. 19), and on the anniversary of the eruption of nearby Mount Vesuvius in 1631 when his intercession was invoked and the city was spared from the effects of the eruption (Dec. 16).

It’s not blood. It’s an alchemist’s concoction. It’s an unstable gel that liquifies when agitated. Why won’t the bishop let the “blood” be analyzed by scientific testing? Why don’t they try agitating the reliquary on other dates or for several days in a row as a test of its properties? It’s Medieval superstition and piety based on falsehood.

It’s pretty remarkable that Naples obtained a vial of blood from St. Januarius, who died in 305, that has no historical record of existence nor chain of custody until it suddenly appeared over 1,000 years later in 1389.
