We Laugh Because We Believe

Set in two inks Black for the argument. Red for everything the Church already answered.

Empires Rise and Fall. The Church Abides.

Let’s have a little chat about history, shall we? About the grand, glittering empires we mortals love to build, worship, and inevitably watch crumble into dust.

Listen to Father McTeigue breaking it down. He takes us on a whistle-stop tour through the graveyard of human hubris. Where are they now? The Romans with their legions, the Ottomans in their splendor, the British planting flags across the globe, the Soviets marching with their iron-fisted ideology? They’re all gone. Dust. Footnotes in a textbook. They all promised their people greatness, peace and everlasting glory, didn’t they? And yet, every single one of these monolithic, ego-driven superpowers collapsed under the weight of their own moral rot and imperial overreach.

And what’s standing in the ruins, quietly outlasting the Caesars, the Czars, and the commissars?

It’s just the little ol’ Catholic Church. Two thousand years of schisms, scandals, and persecutions. And yet, somehow, the mystical body of Christ continues on! Why? Because, as Father McTeigue reminds us, it’s not built on the shifting sands of political machinery, economic clout, or parliamentary majority. It’s built on the transcendent.

So the next time you find yourself trembling at the feet of the latest secular crusade or political savior promising utopia, take a breath. Remember that earthly empires are about as permanent as sandcastles. High tide is always coming. The real hope, the enduring anchor in a chaotic world, isn’t found in Washington or the Silicon Valley. It’s found in the transcendent, ancient, and remarkably resilient Catholic Church.
