Remember the day that the abortionist George Tiller was killed, some folks at the Huffington Post was scouring pro-life sites and looking for comments that were either cavalier about the murder or even condoning it. Well, today I checked out HuffPo to check out what their combox was saying. And needless to say, it was pretty ugly.
If somebody is constantly harassing people and the law can do nothing about it, maybe this was the only option.
it fascinates me how these old a** men are so fixation on abortion rights- they probably haven’t even had sex in 30 years.
It’s sad that he lost his life…That being said, this is a little OT. but has anyone noticed how many of these anti abortion protesters are old men? This guy was 61 years old, why is he worried about what is going on inside the uterus of a woman of child bearing age?
When anti-abortionist are allowed to protest in front of a school; but the President of the United States is censored for fear of indoctrinating children, the rest of the population better pay attention – the right has lost its collective mind and have moved beyond obstructionist to anarchist. They believe in violence and have guns a plenty, they talk of revolt and succussion and show no regard for human life or any one or anything that does not fit into their narrow view of the world.
Beware the republican anarchist their coming.
So, do I have this right? Someone across the street from a school with pictures of aborted fetuses (?) is legally excercising his right to free speech & it’s ok. However, a few days ago a good chunk of the country went nuts because the President was going to speak to students in these same schools & it was too horrible to allow. Is that correct?
Something’s real wrong with this picture.
if he was in jail he would not have been on the wrong end of a bullet!!!!
There’s mention in two thousand year old Sanskrit literature of abortions being performed. Abortions are most definitely not some new-fangled ‘lefty’ innovation, as the lunatic right would have you believe.
Have you seen the horrible graphic posters these sociopaths display? It’s not free speech, it’s terrorism.
One has to understand, however, that all those guns rights people and anti-abortion protestors need to learn that if one lives by the sword, then it can turn around and bite you.
I’m sure anti-abortionists are going to make him a martyr. Dr. Tiller was a martyr. Not just for abortion, but for women’s rights. This was probably just a drive by.
Mr. Newman cried for his friend who was gentle man huh? Now Mr Newman knows how the friends of Dr. Tiller feel. Mr Newman your gentle friend was a murder and Dr Tiller was doing something that was legal. You may not have liked what he did but your friend was a murder. No hero, only a zero.
This is obviously a vast left wing conspiracy against both anti abortion and anti gravel protestors. How else can you explain that the first shooting was at a gravel pit. Maybe the man was protesting the right of rocks not to be crushed up for gravel and the shooter favored rocks having a choice.
with the way the fake news pundits will run with this one, we might as well get a good laugh out of it now.
More’s the pity. If the Right had to worry about what the left has to, we would be a better nation.
John F Kennedy
Martin Luthor King Jr.
George Tiller
How many people can the right gun down to muzzle the left before we get what they are doing?
“Alleged ” shooter was not only defending his 1st Amendment right to free speech by protesting abortion, he also asserted his 2nd Amendment right to bear arms. The right must be extra proud of this “patriot”.
The info says the shooter carried anti abortion signs. Does that make him a right wing nut job?Maybe they are starting to kill each other

This looks like just blind hatred to me. Not much we can do besides pray for them. And maybe pray that they're all secretly 13 and don't know any better.
I'm definitely taking part in the "24 hours for life" on November 1 now, though. Is that national? That's when we're doing it in Dallas.

if one lives by the sword, then it can turn around and bite you.
What happens if you mix your metaphors?

I went to their website to read some of the other comments. Most of the people commenting made comments that suggest that:
1. They think anyone who likes God or is anti-abortion is totally crazy and extreme (and that most of us own guns?!)
2. Everyone who is anti-abortion gets together and talks about ways we can undermine and/or physically harm "the other side"
3. They really don't understand how abortion hurts women/babies/families
4. They don't believe that anyone who is prolife could have truly good motives.
5. They don't believe that Michael Hirsch's (the "anti-choice right winger")death has anything to do with his viewpoint, that he was simply killed by dillusional or mentally ill gunman. In other words, they believe there's no "proof" that the murder was tied to his beliefs.
After being mad, I just feel misunderstood and sad for the people who are misunderstanding. Most of them are calling for "proof" that the murder is connected to his abortion stance, when the proof is clearly there. I guess that is sort of the whole problem with defining your own truths and rules…you lose sight of what is really real.

Beez,
you made laugh out loud.
Elizabeth, I agree with you that many of them really don't see how being pro-life is a loving position. And Michael Hirsh is a blogger I linked to. The victim's name in James Pouillon.

"There's mention in two thousand year old Sanskrit literature of abortions being performed. Abortions are most definitely not some new-fangled 'lefty' innovation, as the lunatic right would have you believe."
It's not quite two thousand years, but the condemnation of abortion which is a well-known fact about the early church certainly seems to undermine any notion that the 'lunatic right' thinks abortion's just a recent thing, unless 'lunatic right' is defined specifically to include anyone with a decent knowledge of history in general, or even of church history specifically.
While we're praying for the soul of this man and his murderer we ought to drop God a line for the brains of some of these commentators. I'm not going to pretend the pro-life reaction to Tiller was totally kosher, because it patently wasn't, but…FRICK.

Wish these fools would learn how to spell properly, (e.g. Martin Luthor King). Or maybe the writer had recently attended a comic book convention.

I'm absolutely at a loss as to how anyone can read anything from the Huntington Post. And I'm not talking about the content (I know that is tripe); I'm talking about the layout. It's one of the busiest most unprofessional looking websites I've ever laid my peepers on. The people who left those horrid messages should be rewarded by the fact that they actually found the article and comment section. Maybe they'll win a very "special" place in the afterlife.

I wish I had the courage to read stuff at HuffPo but I just can't subject my brain to such idiocy. I don't think it's a surprise to any of us that the lunatics are raving that this it's an ok thing for this pro-lifer to be murdered why they've sanctified Tiller. They don't love life, remember? Murder to them was reduced to nothing more than a choice, so this isn't anything above norm for them.

I avoid comment sections of non-Catholic news/blog sources. There's only so much Online Disinhibition Effect one can take. It's also known as (warning: obscenity) John Gabriel's Greater Internet F*wad Theory

We need to pray for the repose of the soul of James Pouillon and for the mercy and conversion of his killer.
What our foes will not understand is that the grace of Christ allows us to forgive rather than retaliate in an enraged rampage. This is when we must be most loving in the face of evil.
I am just as prone to anger and frustration as anyone else, but it is not angry righteousness that will win souls ultimately, but the grace of Christ witnessed to by loving steadfastness.
I think the time of our own martyrdom has begun. Please God, give us the grace and strength to remain faithful.
Hail Mary…

What did you expect? These people hate us.
September 12, 2009 at 10:53 pm
Ditto to Mike in CT.
Also as Arch. Chaput taught in the Pro-life struggle, our ultimate enemy is the devil. So, the twisted and sick attitudes of pro-aborts no longer shock me given that context. In fact, it has almost the same effect as the exorcism of Emily Rose – a true incident where this young lady allowed herself to be possessed to prove to the world that the devil exists as a person (and not as a philosophical construct i.e. absence of good)

Last week Scott Simon of NPR and a novelist laughingly discussed, on public radio on Saturday morning, the possibility of murdering Karl Rove.
They're scary.

Matthew,
Thanks for clarifying Elizabeth Anne's post. I was a little nervous.
Elizabeth Anne, (to quote Mark Twain) Rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated.

If you can play down the murder of innocent human life, there is little else you cannot rationalize. At the heart of all great acts of inhumanity to man during the last century, there lay this very sentiment.
September 14, 2009 at 5:13 pm
I agree with Mike. I'm kind of curious as to what the new persecution is going to look like in the post-Christian era we're now in. I really hope this isn't it… but I guess we can't choose our own cross.
What really gets me is how the commentors thought that just because the evil of abortion has been around nearly as long as there has been civilization that it somehow makes it ok. "There is nothing new under the sun" (somewhere in Ecclesiastes…).
Evil is evil, no matter how old.
September 14, 2009 at 6:59 pm
Obviously, we are not dealing with very bright lights in those comments. Prayer is the only way to deal with them since reason will not work.
