The most virulently pro-abortion prominent politician ever, President Barack Obama, is to give the commencement address at the University of Notre Dame.
This is an absolute travesty.
[ChicagoBreakingNews.com] President Barack Obama will give the commencement address at the University of Notre Dame on May 17, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said this afternoon. The address in South Bend was one of three Gibbs mentioned in a briefing to reporters this afternoon. Obama also plans to speak to graduates at Arizona State University on May 13 and at U.S. Naval Academy on May 22. Obama would be the sixth U.S. president since Dwight Eisenhower to speak at a Notre Dame commencement, according to an article on past commencement speakers on the university’s Web site.
This must not stand. Call any alumni you know, especially ones that give money, and tell them to call the University. Call the University yourself and protest. Call the Bishop. Call Lou Holtz, call Ara Parseghian. Send emails. Do whatever you can. I know it is a long shot since we are talking about the POTUS here, but we must try to get Notre Dame to rescind the offer.
This is a fight we need to pick. Stay tuned.
Update: Here is the link to ND President’s office , Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C.
Please let him know that it is totally unacceptable that the most prominent Catholic University in the country is inviting someone as virulently pro-death, to the point of supporting infanticide, to speak at commencement. I just did.
And here is the email for the Provost Thomas G. Burish provost@nd.edu
Sign the Cardinal Newman Society Petition to protest this scandal!
Update II: Here is the contact number for the Bishop of Fort Wayne – South Bend the Most Reverend John M. D’Arcy. (260) 422-4611
Update III: Commonweal approves of the choice of Obama for ND Commencement.
Update IV:Ed Morrissey of Hot Air says:
If they invited the President to participate in a debate with a Notre Dame theologian on the issue of life, that would be quite different, and certainly intriguing. By giving President Obama a platform and honoring him with a degree, the university is tacitly endorsing Obama and these positions. According to the church’s catechism — which Pope Benedict reminded Nancy Pelosi last month — Obama would have effectively excommunicated himself already had he been Catholic, but a Catholic university now welcomes him for their commencement with an honorary degree.

TOTUS, not POTUS. (Teleprompter of the United States).

Notre Dame — Our Lady — would never stand for having President Obama speak at a school named after her. What a disgrace!

My parish’s pastor graduated from Notre Dame. I am passing the word on to him.

Um, please don’t call the bishop’s office. I can promise you that he’s well aware of the gravity of the situation, and I have the utmost faith that he will formulate an appropriate and timely response. All you’ll be doing is taking up his secretaries’ time. Bother the University instead.

Just sent to Fr. Jenkins’ office:
I am absolutely appalled and shocked that Notre Dame University has invited President Barack Obama to give its commencement speech. Mr. Obama, by his position and authority, is the foremost promoter of abortion and infanticide in the United States. And his recent actions on human embryonic destruction verges on moral madness. He has threatened through FOCA to impose his demonic standards regarding abortion upon the nation. If this invitation stands, the Administration of Notre Dame should consider itself in the state of apostasy.

Complain all you want – nothing will be done about this. Sure, there will be the usual blah blah blah from the bishop, but in the end the White Boy from the White House will speak at UND.

If you bitchy alums and single minded Catholics f-ck this up for us, I am gunna be so pissed. The student body is psyched. I know you all seem to think your opinion matters more than ours but I hate to break it to you, it doesnt(though I know ND has the tendency to go wherever the purse strings pull her.) This is the leader of the free world for Christ sake. And lucky for you you didnt have to sit through *ugh* the president at you graduation, he is coming to ours so shut your mouths please.

Dear Anon.
No.

Email the USCCB.. A few years ago they forced Cardinal O’Malley to chastise Catholic Charities and to not attend a dinner honoring the pro-abortion Mayor of Boston. They should protest this as well.

If the disturbing comments of Anonymous are what comes out of Notre Dame nowadays, then it is no longer Catholic at all.

ahh, breaking the second commandment in a big time way…using Our Lords mothers name in vain….classy ND….(makes me wanna yack)

Hmm, I know Burish a bit – he was at my university before taking the provost’s post (he wasn’t very popular, but I thought well of him). I think perhaps I will send a handwritten note – I think they get more attention than an email anyway.

Y’know, protesting the first Black president won’t do anything but get faithful Catholics accused of racism.
Let’s put together a class-action lawsuit to make The University of South Bend stop using Our Lady’s name in vain, and calling themselves Catholic.

I am not at all surprised by the post of Anonymous @ 3-20 7:02pm. The grammar, syntax, spelling and most of all the profanity are quite symptomatic of the type of person who would support Obama. Maybe you should stick to text-messaging. And no, we will not be silenced by you! I have already contacted the President of Notre Dame and Bishop D’Arcy, as well as signed online petitions.

A grievous blow to the entire Church. This is MUCH worse than inviting Richard Williamson to give the address. The anti-semite SSPX ‘bishop’ has a penchant for revising the extent of an old holocaust. Barack Obama has a penchant for facilitating the escalation of a new one.

I say ND just get Bob the Builder to speak, same thing…

I hope the donors & benefactors of ND will withhold their funds unless the university stops this nonsense and scandal.
