Ralph Nader said Sunday he will run for president as a third-party candidate, criticizing the top White House contenders as too close to big business and pledging to repeat a bid that will “shift the power from the few to the many.”
Now let’s remember that Nader is at least partially responsble for us narrowly avoiding a Gore Presidency. Kyoto, anyone? If you can believe it he actually ran to the left of Gore. Remember Gore was then populist Gore, Alpha male Gore. Remember that?
Nader, 73, said most people are disenchanted with the Democratic and Republican parties due to a prolonged Iraq war and a shaky economy. Fine. Here’s the thing. I support him getting in but I doubt he’ll have much effect because there is no left of Obama. Obama is so Karl Marx left that I can’t see how Nader gets any traction.
I think if Hillary is able to wrestle away the nomination then Nader could do some damage as the far left doesn’t much like her anymore. But I think Obama is impervious to an attack from his left flank.
