In a speech about immigration, self proclaimed Catholic Vice President Joe Biden invoked the Bible and questioned the Christianity of those who oppose the current bill.
Said Biden: “Many of these same representatives talk about their Christianity and their fidelity to the Bible but they forget Matthew Chapter 25 verse 34 where scripture teaches us ‘I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.'”
This is pure asshattery on a few fronts. Biden clearly believes that the Bible has plenty to say about border security but nothing at all about killing the unborn. Couldn’t that exact verse from the Bible be used to teach us how to treat babies? And while the Bible informs his views on immigration, it doesn’t on marriage where the Bible is also pretty darn clear?
Secondly, Biden is clearly questioning the Christianity of those who oppose the bill saying that while they “talk” of their Christianity they “forget” their Christianity on the issue of immigration. Isn’t this the same Biden who was so offended by other politicians questioning his faith that he said, “The next Republican that tells me I’m not religious I’m going to shove my rosary beads down their throat.” So it’s offensive when people question his faith but fine when he does it of others?
And finally, what happened to that wall of separation between Church and state Joe?
It’s probably best if we don’t seek consistency from Joe. It would just be sad if he weren’t Vice President. But he is. And it’s even sadder.
