As we well know bubble laws have been popping up all over the country in an attempt to prevent pro-lifers from being within shouting distance of abortion clinics and anyone considering having an abortion.
I think those laws are silly and wrongheaded. But if they’re going to exist I say let’s be consistent about these kinds of things.
ESPN reports:
U.S. figure skater Johnny Weir says he received threats from anti-fur activists that made him fear for his safety, causing him to scrub any plans to stay at a hotel while in Vancouver for the Olympics.
“I felt very threatened,” he said Saturday. “I’m not allowed to say how everything got through, but my agent got letters and faxes and e-mails. I got letters at the ice rink, somebody found my phone number.
Weir said, “All these crazy fur people. Security-wise, to stay in a hotel would be very difficult. There have been threats against me. I didn’t want to get hurt.”
Activists are threatening people?
And this is hardly a solitary incident. Animal rights nuts are all over the place threatening and terrorizing people. One FBI spokeswoman said there’s been an upswing in animal rights violence saying:
“What’s really concerning is the tactics that are being used. Previously it was non-violent, mostly harassment or vandalism. Now we’re seeing the increased use of incendiary devices to target individuals.”
I say this is a clear case where bubble laws are needed. I say we initiate a law where anti-fur protesters are not allowed within eight feet of ice-skaters and cannot to be seen within 50 feet of an ice rink.
If ice is formed over a pond, anti-fur activists should contact local authorities to best decipher what legal proximity they can have to said pond.
Anti-fur protesters should also probably stay away from men in spandex just to be sure.
I’m just saying, let’s be consistent.
