“I have become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions.” -Barack Obama
This most recent example of Obama’s hubris is stunning not just because he so clearly thinks the world of himself but because it’s so stupid.
I ask what traditions is Obama referring to when he says he’s a symbol of our best traditions?
Right to life for the unborn which was a pretty strong tradition in this country? Nope.
Oh I know, the 2nd Amendment guaranteed right to defend oneself with arms if necessary? Not so much.
The tradition that marriage is only between a man and a woman? Definitely not that one.
The right to keep your own hard-earned money? Are you joking?
Prayer in school? NO WAY!!!!!!!
I ask the world to what traditions is Obama referring? Anyone? Anyone?

Maybe he refers to the “tradition” which he whole-heartedly embraces, of Margaret Sanger’s racist and eugenic ideas to do away with black babies – Planned Parenthood is working hard at accomplishing this, and they have his support – America’s best traditions, indeed. (snort)
60 years ago someone tried this in my own country across the big pond – why don’t people ever learn, that goes for us here as well as those over there.

ooh ooh!! I know!! He means justice, honesty, integrity and firm resolution to always do what is right, even when it isn’t popular.
Oh, wait. Never mind. I had him confused with the real Messiah. My bad.

It’s alright. A lot of people seem to be making that mistake these days. Nobody I’d want to hang out with but people none the less.

When he says “best traditions” he is referring to the re-inventing of the American Revolution by progressive politicians at the turn of the 19th (to 20th) century, and continued those of the New Left, SDS, and others in the 60’s.
Also keep in mind that Obama went to an Ivy League school. He has never heard the truth of the American spirit- only Americanism ala international socialism and progressive atheist ideology. The fact of the matter is that he perception has been so skewed by his “education”, along with the perceptions of his disciples.
The truth about America has been lost to so many people, because of poor education and philosophical fades.

Ah, but you forget that with the advent of television and so many other electronic means of diverting fickle human attention, that many by now consider ancient history to have ended only with the election of W.J. Clinton as president in the Bronze Age of 1992. That being the case, Obama is perfectly correct in asking us to honor those traditions that began way way in 1999 or 2000. He reaches back into our very roots–just ask Brittany Spears or Paris Hilton or Al Gore and that whole crowd.

Thinking of the entitlement programs he’ll push and the inevitable source for their money, I’d say he’s trying to continue that time honored tradition of politicians stealing the shirt off your back and telling you how it’s not needed.

Right. Maybe he means the traditions of Tammany Hall.

We are Church! We Celebrate! We Believe! We are the ones that we’ve been waiting for! Obama is our only hope for change. He is change we can believe in. Obama is our life, our sweetness and our hope. This is why the Catholic vote is going for Obama.

I heard Barack Obama was the real author of Summorum Pontificum. Is this true?

Obama’s New Campaign Slogan:

David L,
Obama wouldn’t settle for being the fifth anything. All the songs would say Obama/Lennon/McCartney.

A return to the traditions of FDR’s New Deal. Jobs programs like the CCC and the WPA. A weakened military so that some crackpot dictator can try to take over the world, or hit us with a sneak attack.

Larry totally nailed it.
on a related note, I did a college report on presidential speeches evaluating key terms in every inaugural and state of the union from Washington up through Slick Willy’s first term. All words of humility, a sense of awe at the huge responsibility, and a sense of needing anyone beyond himself, seem to have faded out in the past fifty years or so, where as words asserting oneself and one’s abilities, and words about children, families, etc., have gone up even as babies are murdered and families fall apart.
I would love a return of the tradition of modesty and real virtue and character, especially in self-estimations.. given this quote, however, I doubt I will get it.

Perhaps he is speaking of the hallowed traditions of Madison Avenue where shallow slogans and slick packaging combine to make Americans turn over their hard earned dollars and wonder later “why did I buy this thing anyway?” Then the next commercial starts…
