A couple of recent quotes from the liberals favorite religious figure. (He is only their favorite because they don’t actually listen to what he says).
First quote: “I love President George W Bush.” That is a real quote from the Dalai Lama on Saturday.
Second Quote: On Terrorists “Kill the Bastards” Ok he didn’t actually use those words. But he conceded that peace doesn’t work with these folks.
“It is difficult to deal with terrorism through non-violence,” the Tibetan spiritual leader said delivering the Madhavrao Scindia Memorial Lecture here.
He also termed terrorism as the worst kind of violence which is not carried by a few mad people but by those who are very brilliant and educated.
“They (terrorists) are very brilliant and educated…but a strong ill feeling is bred in them. Their minds are closed,” the Dalai Lama said.
He said that the only way to tackle terrorism is through prevention. The head of the Tibetan government-in-exile left the audience stunned when he said “I love President George W Bush.” He went on to add how he and the US President instantly struck a chord in their first meeting unlike politicians who take a while to develop close ties. This is just the latest in a long line of statements by the Dalai Lama that would be despised by the lefties.
I am reposting this video from last year that made me laugh. Australian TV host John Safran playing a little game of who said this? The big, bad, authoritarian Pope or the cute and cudly Dalai Lama.

I have a lot of respect for the Dalai Lama – and I think it’s such a disservice to him to turn him into some teddy bear liberal mascot. Thanks for this post – really interesting. I like Bush too, even though I disagree with him on some things. If two such diverse people as the DL and Tony Blair genuinely like the guy, there must be more than the picture that the media paints.

Well, for a pagan….
Actually, I sometimes like John Safran's stuff, like his attempt to join the Klan as its first Jew:

A rant against Catholicism:

The one that annoyed me was when Fr Bob Maguire made told him to stand on the High Altar at Sth Melbourne Catholic Parish to light the candles. Saffran suggested that was wrong, and Fr Bob said "no worries"!

Yeah, I guess as far as secular liberal Jews go, Safran is OK. He never bashes Catholicism. And I’ll admit, I DID watch his series to make sure of that, and was actually pleasantly surprised. I did think the final episode when he goes through an exorcism was a bit hokey as he was obviously stifling a laugh on several occasions.
Back to the Dalai lama, yes, it is funny how he is the icon for liberals (a la Goldie Hawn and Geere inc.). But he was/is also an advocate of the caste system, held slaves, by many accounts very mysogenistic.
I guess he is a good role model for liberals afterall.
