From the “what were they thinking?” file. Surely we can do better than those day-glo panels in the sanctuary. They make the altar, the image of Christ, look downright dull. Oh, wait. The altar is lit up too!

This has to be one of the most banal and contradictory uilding remodellings I have ever seen. Th self delusion and break in Catholic culture that produced this is astonishing. Clearly everything Pope Benedict is saying about beauty and a restoration in continuity with the past is falling on willingly deaf ears. The cathedral dean had put his roman collar on so we are convinced. Has he ever heard of the story "The Emperors New Clothes". By the way I want to add the Neocats are a sect and certainly given the character and approach of its founders presents a real problem for the Catholic Church.
